The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Jan. 8 said that scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will continue to affect most of Southern Luzon and the Visayas from Thursday, Jan. 9, to Saturday, Jan. 11, due to the prevailing shear line. 00:00The cold wind or north-east monsoon will continue to blow in the northern and central Luzon

00:06while the shear line will be affected in the southern Luzon and Visayas.

00:11This is the line where the hot wind is coming from the east,

00:15also known as the easterlies, and the cold north-east monsoon or amiehan.

00:20It is expected that in the northern and southern Luzon,

00:23there will be strong rains that could cause flooding or landslides.

00:28Based on our latest satellite animation,

00:30we do not have any visible typhoons or low-pressure areas

00:33and we do not expect any new weather disturbances for this year in the coming days.

00:40For today, we are still expecting heavy rains in the northern Luzon.

00:43Here in the Bicol Region, it is expected that the shear line will be affected by the hot and cold wind

00:48and it is also expected that the Khezon, Marinduque, and Romblon regions will be affected.

00:53So bring an umbrella if you are going outside

00:55and be careful of the strong rains that could cause flooding and landslides.

01:01Here in the northern Luzon, there is still a strong north-east monsoon or amiehan.

01:07It is expected that there will be light to moderate rains in the Cagayan Valley,

01:12Cordillera Administrative Region, and a large part of the central Luzon,

01:16even parts of Rizal and Laguna.

01:19So make sure that you have an umbrella and bring a cool jacket.

01:24Here in the Ilocos Region, Metro Manila and Calabarzon,

01:29there are partly cloudy to cloudy skies and there is a chance of heavy rains.

01:33While in the Mindoro Provinces, there are partly cloudy to cloudy skies in the morning

01:37but there is a high chance of heavy rains, especially in the Oriental Mindoro,

01:41by the end of the day.

01:43It is expected that the temperature will drop due to the effects of the north-east monsoon and shear line

01:47over most of Luzon.

01:49In Metro Manila, it is possible that the temperature will drop to 22 degrees Celsius.

01:53In Tagaytay, the temperature will drop to 21 degrees.

01:56In the northern part of the province, Tuguegarao, the temperature will drop to 20 degrees

02:00and the hottest temperature is 25 degrees Celsius.

02:03While in the Cordillera Region, between 14 to 15 degrees Celsius is the coldest temperature.

02:10To our fellowmen in Visayas and Palawan,

02:13it is expected that there will be heavy rains due to the effects of the shear line

02:17or the heat and cold winds.

02:20It is expected that there will be a high chance of heavy rains in the eastern Visayas

02:24facing the Pacific Ocean.

02:26There will be moderate to heavy rains or up to 100 mm of rain.

02:30Be careful of possible floods and landslides.

02:33As early as this morning, there will be a high chance of heavy rains,

02:37especially in the southern part of Visayas, the Negros Island Region,

02:41including Siquijor, Southern Cebu, and Southern Bohol.

02:44Heavy rains will continue for the next few days, especially in the areas of Panay Island.

02:50The temperature in a large part of Visayas is between 24 to 30 degrees Celsius,

02:54while in Palawan, it is between 23 to 31 degrees Celsius.

02:59To our fellowmen in Mindanao, there are areas affected by the shear line

03:03as early as this morning, including a large part of Zamboanga Peninsula,

03:08a part of the Mesamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur,

03:12as well as Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.

03:15However, the areas affected by the shear line will be the most affected.

03:21Here in Mindanao, there are areas where the sky is cloudy from morning to evening,

03:27and from dusk to dusk, there is a chance of heavy rains or landslides.

03:35The temperature here in Metro Davao is between 24 to 32 degrees Celsius.

03:40As of now, our gale warning is only concentrated in Calaguas Islands

03:45and Hilagang Baybayin in Catanduanes, where the waves are still up to 4.5 meters

03:50from morning to evening.

03:52But by the afternoon, it is possible that part of the waves will go down

03:55and our gale warning will be removed in the areas that we mentioned.

03:59However, today and in the coming days,

04:01the waves will continue to rise in Hilagang Baybayin, Luzon,

04:05Silangang Baybayin, Luzon and Visayas.

04:08It will also have a strong effect on Northeast Monsoon

04:11up to 3.5 meters or it will still be on the floor of the house,

04:14so it is still dangerous for small sea vessels until the weekend.

04:18While the Baybayin of Luzon, Visayas and Malakim Baybayin of Mindanao

04:22are affected by the high waves,

04:25where it is possible that the waves will rise up to 2.5 meters

04:28when there are thunderstorms.

04:31And for our three-day weather forecast,

04:34from tomorrow until Saturday,

04:36strong rains will continue in a large part of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

04:41It will still be affected by the shear line or the hot and cold winds,

04:45especially in the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas

04:49where we have an increased weather advisory for the next three days.

04:54This is concentrated in the eastern part of our country.

04:57Expect moderate to heavy rains by tomorrow

05:00or up to 100 millimeters of heavy rain

05:03here in the Bicol Region,

05:05particularly in Camarinas Sur, Albay, Sosogon, Catanduanes

05:09and Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar.

05:14Then by the end of Friday, that's January 10,

05:17expect moderate to heavy rains in Albay, Sosogon, Samar and Eastern Samar

05:23while possible up to 200 millimeters of rain.

05:27Here in Northern Samar,

05:29again, this is because of the shear line

05:31which is typical when the Northeast Monsoon is strong at this time.

05:36This is still possible to change

05:38and there will be more moderate to heavy or even at times intense rains

05:42in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga Region

05:46and some parts of Calabarzon.

06:00the effect of the strong Northeast Monsoon will continue

06:03here in the surrounding areas of Luzon,

06:06especially in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Region, Aurora

06:10and nearby areas here in Calabarzon and Central Luzon.

06:14There will be light to moderate rains

06:16while the surrounding areas of Luzon,

06:18aside from Metro Manila,

06:19there are still chances of flooding

06:21and even if the skies are flooded, there will be isolated light rains.

06:24But for tomorrow, our countrymen who will be traveling

06:27to Capistahan and Puong Nazareno,

06:28there are chances of mostly cloudy skies

06:30and there is also a chance of moderate to moderate rains.

06:33While here in the majority of Mindanao,

06:35there are still chances of isolated thunderstorms.
