Southeast braces for coldest January in years

The first full week of January is coming with freezing low temperatures across much of the Southeast.

00:04It stays in place here across the

00:05Southeast, especially as we had

00:07throughout the rest of this week,

00:09and it's going to be quite dry and brisk

00:11for areas even further north and West.

00:14The numbers just topping off at the 40s.

00:1742 in Atlanta, Nashville 34.

00:20The sunshine not helping things much.

00:22It's still going to be quite cold,

00:24but at least it's dry.

00:26You get to bust out your winter chic.

00:28Jacksonville, you're at 57.

00:29Tampa 59 still hanging on

00:31to those cool temperatures.

00:33I want to play something out for you.

00:34Future radars that you can kind of get a

00:36feel of when things are going to start to.

00:39We're going to start to shake things up a bit.

00:41You know this is our next big weather maker.

00:43It's that winter storm that

00:44we've been tracking, right?

00:45It starts off or at least those impacts

00:47starting across East Texas,

00:50moving through the Arklatex,

00:51eventually through the Tennessee Valley,

00:53the Mid South,

00:53and it's going to continue

00:55its journey further East,

00:57and it's still going to be packing

00:58a lot of the same punches

00:59when it comes to the icing concern

01:02and also the snow concern.

01:04Still quite cold there,

01:05even out ahead along the coast.

01:08Let's break this down for an area like Atlanta.

01:11While it is cold,

01:12it is going to be sunny Wednesday, Thursday.

01:14Here comes that storm by Friday,

01:16bringing with it,

01:18you see those little circular dots here

01:21that indicates sleet,

01:22slick travel on tap,

01:23as we are anticipating a wintry mix

01:25and even that potential for some ice,

01:29Saturday 39 or at least freezing rain.

01:31Sunday, we do dry out,

01:33but we're still going to hang on to that chill.

01:35It's not until Monday that we do start

01:37to rebound back up to the 50s,

01:39but it's not long live.

01:40So get used to the chill.

01:41It does linger.

01:42It does start to lift out of Florida,

01:45but I-10 on North,

01:47you're hanging on to that chill.

01:48We looked at Atlanta's numbers.

01:50Let's look at Little Rocks.

01:51You're in the 30s.

01:52Raleigh, similar boat.

01:54I hope you're ready.

01:55We're going to want to make sure you bundle up here

01:57as we head into the end of the week.

01:59So an area like New Orleans,

02:00you'll jump back to the 50s quickly a Friday.
