00:00At the Alhawra Club in Umluj, an annual prestigious camel race takes place, attracting over 300

00:11competitors from all corners of the kingdom.

00:16Camels were primarily used for desert transportation, now they become part of leisure activities,

00:22sports, and even competitive events as you can see here.

00:31We adopt them at a very young age, around the age of the mafaretz, to train them.

00:38We teach them to trot, to run alone, and then in groups.

00:43After a month of training, the camel is ready for the race.

00:53With this small device, we guide the camel during the competition.

00:57It's safer than having a rider.

01:06We use different sounds to train them.

01:08For example, at the start, I make this noise, and a few meters from the finish, I make it

01:14louder.

01:28These races aim to prepare the camels for major competitions organized by the Saudi

01:33Camel Federation.

01:41Each club organizes its own events, based on camel ages and the distance covered.

01:48Today showcases a four-part race in the Harayegh category, spanning four kilometers, followed

01:54by a 5K race for the Ela Gouayar category.

02:01This sport is a cherished heritage passed down by our ancestors, deeply rooted in our

02:07culture.

02:08We are grateful that the government is committed to preserving this legacy.
