Now, teammates, let's watch this live via Zoom.
00:03
The GILES Pilipinas Girls Player, Tiffany Reyes,
00:06
the daughter of the former PBA player, J.R. Reyes.
00:10
She's our idol, partner.
00:12
Good morning, Tiffany.
00:14
Good morning, sir.
00:15
Yes, good morning. Good morning, Tiffany.
00:17
Tiffany, how are you?
00:18
What are you up to right now to start off?
00:21
What are your agendas for the GILES Pilipinas Women's?
00:26
What are you up to right now?
00:29
What are the updates for you?
00:33
For updates for GILES,
00:36
I think May is SIABA in the Philippines, Batangas.
00:41
Then, in September is FIBA in U16.
00:47
Tiffany, before we talk about your upcoming events,
00:51
obviously, you're a second-generation basketball star here in the country.
00:57
Basketball royalty since your father played in the PBA.
01:02
I just want to ask, of course, you're still young,
01:06
but when you were younger,
01:08
was this always the path that you imagined yourself pursuing?
01:14
I think yes, because ever since I was a baby,
01:18
I've tried many sports,
01:22
but basketball was really the one that stuck with me.
01:27
Obviously, your dad is very instrumental, I would assume,
01:32
in influencing you with pursuing basketball as a career.
01:37
Can you just talk to us about the early days with your dad,
01:43
how he introduced you to basketball,
01:46
and many memories you made playing the sport, maybe?
01:52
I'm not really sure how I started basketball,
01:56
but maybe it was the influence of watching my dad play in the PBA.
02:03
I would always go on YouTube and watch the highlights of the NBA.
02:08
My dad would help me, and then he would train me,
02:11
just for me to get better every day.
02:16
Tiffany, you've made quite a name for yourself
02:19
as a member of the Guilles Pilipinas squad.
02:21
How would you describe your experience representing the national team?
02:27
My experience with the national team,
02:30
it was such an amazing experience.
02:32
I made great memories there,
02:36
playing with the 18-year-olds, the coaches,
02:40
they were all so nice, helpful.
02:43
They always corrected me when I was wrong.
02:47
I was so grateful to be given the opportunity to play as a 13-year-old,
02:52
to play in an 18-year-old international,
02:55
and to represent my country.
02:58
Tiffany, last year you joined the West Virginia Thunder UAA program.
03:03
Can you just tell us about the whole experience,
03:06
and how do you think this contributed to your growth as a player?
03:11
Yes, I joined the West Virginia Thunder,
03:16
but the season hasn't started yet.
03:19
It's around March, I think.
03:24
How I made the decision of joining that team,
03:27
and how it helped me,
03:28
I just found a team that really fit me,
03:33
what was the best fit,
03:35
because I also had the help of my personal trainer,
03:38
Coach Dante Harlan.
03:42
What's the biggest difference, would you say,
03:44
about the style of basketball here in the Philippines,
03:48
compared to there in the States?
03:53
It's different because here it's more competitive,
03:59
and everyone's so strong,
04:01
and they always want to win.
04:04
There in the Philippines, they're also competitive,
04:07
but it's a different type of competition here.
04:12
Tiffany, speaking of competitive,
04:15
what is it like competing in the UAA?
04:17
How does the level of play differ from what you've experienced
04:22
with GILES Filipinas or other domestic teams?
04:27
It's AAU, and like what I said a while ago,
04:31
it hasn't started yet, so I haven't played AAU yet.
04:37
Looking back, what was your favorite experience
04:41
throughout the entire thing?
04:44
What entire thing?
04:46
Playing abroad?
04:52
My favorite part is how everyone,
04:55
like my team here, they're so helpful,
05:00
everyone's lifting me up.
05:02
One of my favorite is when we had a trip to Tampa,
05:06
I had one game where I think it was one of my best games here so far,
05:11
I had four straight games.
05:15
It was so fun, everyone was like, yeah.
05:20
Tiffany, I also want to ask, looking ahead,
05:24
what are your goals, both for your individual career
05:28
and as a member of GILES Filipinas?
05:32
For my individual career, I want to play in a high level,
05:37
maybe in the WNBA sometimes.
05:41
And for GILES, I would still want to represent my country.
05:46
Tiffany, you said you watch a lot of NBA games on YouTube,
05:53
and that's mainly how you got really interested in basketball,
05:59
so could you just share with us who are some of your influences
06:03
and your favorite players, maybe in the NBA,
06:05
and as well as the WNBA, because you said that's one of your goals
06:10
in the future, to make it there.
06:14
One of my favorite players in the NBA is Stephen Curry,
06:19
because I always watch how he shoots the three
06:22
and how he moves without the ball.
06:25
For the WNBA, I just started watching the WNBA
06:30
and high school basketball, and one of my idols,
06:36
one of them in college is Juju Watkins,
06:39
and Paige Peckers.
06:41
And for the WNBA, I think it's Kaitlyn Clark.
06:47
Tiffany, I also want to ask, what are your thoughts
06:51
about the four-point play here in the Philippines?
06:55
I know there are a lot of pros and cons here,
06:59
but for you, Tiffany, what are your thoughts about this?
07:04
For the four-point play in the PBA?
07:07
Four-point scoring, right?
07:09
Since you're mainly a shooter, that benefits you, doesn't it?
07:15
Yes, but for me, I don't really like the four-point play.
07:19
I prefer just the normal game.
07:21
They don't need to add additional stuff to make the game more
07:25
like whatever, like how they want to add.
07:31
Tiffany, let's go back to your influences.
07:36
Earlier, you told us about some of your favorite players.
07:41
Do you have any specific thoughts on Kaitlyn Clark,
07:44
one of the biggest women's stars in professional basketball?
07:51
My thoughts about her is how she moves,
07:55
how does she shoot that 4-for-3 contested,
08:00
and it would still go in, and how she creates,
08:03
and attacks the basket.
08:05
I want to do that too, so I'm trying to learn from her
08:09
on what I can do to add to my game.
08:13
From what we've been hearing, you're mainly working on your shooting,
08:18
and that's a good thing because shooters really go a long way,
08:23
especially how this current landscape in basketball has taken shape.
08:30
So can you just share with us, what do you do
08:33
when you work on your shooting behind the scenes?
08:36
How does it look like?
08:41
I not only work on my shooting, but I also work on my attacking
08:46
and also my dribbling.
08:49
But for my shooting, I always get in reps.
08:53
My personal trainer would always correct my form,
08:57
and he would always say, just keep shooting it.
09:00
Don't aim it, or just shoot it.
09:04
He's going to say, use your legs a bit more,
09:07
not just your arms, and then just shoot it.
09:10
Tiffany, what's your personal record in terms of
09:13
three-point shots made consecutively in the gym?
09:19
Consecutively, like in a row?
09:22
In a row, yeah.
09:24
I'm not sure, but I think maybe 10,
09:28
because I was with my dad once in the gym,
09:30
and then I think I made 10 in a row.
09:34
All right.
09:35
Tiffany, before we head on our last set of questions,
09:38
I also want to ask, could you just share with us your journey?
09:46
When did it start that you played basketball?
09:50
Could you tell us your story behind your basketball career?
09:58
I think I was three when I started holding a ball
10:04
and started shooting a ball.
10:06
Once I was around seven or ten,
10:10
I started taking it really seriously ever since I was a kid.
10:15
My dad and all my other coaches would always help me to get better,
10:23
and then I would do some of the moves that I do in training to my game.
10:35
That helped me develop more.
10:38
When I went to Guilas, that helped me in a whole other level
10:44
because of how the basketball IQ is way different than just the normal basketball
10:51
and how the competition got stronger for me,
10:55
and that's how I ended up here.
10:57
All right.
10:58
Tiffany, I don't know if it's too early to ask you this,
11:01
but do you have any specific plans for college?
11:05
Not yet, but I've been seeing highlights on Instagram
11:14
about the colleges and how they're playing.
11:17
Sorry.
11:18
And then how competitive it is.
11:23
But I don't have plans yet for college.
11:26
But do you have a preference whether you want to play in the U.S.
11:32
or maybe here in the UAAP or the NCAA?
11:35
Do you have any plans or preferences, I mean?
11:40
Yes, I would like to play here.
11:43
Finally, do you have any advice to young Filipino athletes
11:48
who also want to carve their path in amateur basketball
11:54
and also professional basketball because that's your goal?
11:58
My advice is to, first of all, always listen to your parents
12:03
and to always work hard and don't let someone or anyone crush your dreams
12:10
on playing wherever you want to play.
12:13
All right.
12:14
Thank you very much, Tiffany Reyes.
12:16
Thanks, Tiffany.
12:17
And happy new year to you.
12:19
Thank you, Paul.
12:20
Happy new year.
