00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. As we move towards

00:042025, the weather is set to turn much more unsettled. We'll see areas of low pressure

00:10move across from the Atlantic, bringing in spells of wind, rain and for some of us, actually,

00:15some snow. Warnings are already in force and they will continually be updated as we move

00:20through the next few days. So, best advice is really to stay up-to-date with the latest

00:24warnings on our website.

00:27Back to the here and now. It's a fairly quiet picture for much of the UK, certainly much

00:32brighter across England and Wales compared to of late. We've lost the mist and murk,

00:36some glimmers of sunshine here too. But for Scotland, the rain already beginning to pile

00:40in, also accompanied by a fairly strong wind. Risk of some heavy and persistent rain across

00:45the high ground across western Scotland. Fairly mild for most of us, especially in the south

00:51after the recent cold days here, we could see highs reaching around 10 to 12 degrees.

00:57Into the evening, if anything, the rain begins to intensify across Scotland. Some heavy and

01:01persistent rain developing. It also engages with some colder air, so risk of some snow,

01:06especially across the higher ground. Warnings do come into effect from Monday onwards. So,

01:12again, if you do have any travel plans for Hogmanay or New Year, do allow some extra

01:17time for your journeys and always stay up-to-date with the latest on our website.

01:21Elsewhere, a fairly cloudy night to come and that cloud will act like a blanket, so it's

01:26going to be a fairly mild night for most of us. Although some clearest skies across the

01:29very far south, we could just see temperatures here fall away to about 3 to 5 degrees. But

01:34I think the greatest risk of any frost will really be across the very far north of Scotland.

01:41So Monday is going to be a wet day for much of Scotland. Risk of some snow still, so some

01:46very tricky conditions at times. It does turn a little bit dry across the north-west

01:50later on before rain then returns from the west as we move into the evening. The rain

01:56also moving into Northern Ireland for a time, maybe the far north of Northern England. But

02:00for much of England and Wales, it's generally dry, albeit fairly cloudy. Risk of a few showers

02:05across the far south and probably the best of any brightness across the far east. Mild

02:11for many in the south. Again, highs 10 to 12 here. But that colder air just begins

02:16to seep a little bit further south, so increasingly cold as the day goes on across the northern

02:21half of Scotland. And then moving into the new year period, we're keeping a very close

02:26eye on things. Further areas of low pressure are likely to move in, bringing the risk of

02:30some further rain, snow and also some strong winds. Best advice at the moment is to stay
