Hello, it's Graham Bean at Murrayfield where Edinburgh have just beaten Glasgow 10-7 in
00:07
the second leg of the 1872 Cup. It was an attritional match, not too much in the way
00:13
of fluid rugby, but Edinburgh defended very well and just about worth their win. An important
00:20
result for Edinburgh who'd lost heavily in the first leg at Hamden last Sunday, Glasgow
00:25
winning that one, 33 points to 14. Edinburgh have been criticised for the way they performed
00:32
at Hamden, but they bounced back well. There was a record crowd inside Murrayfield tonight,
00:38
over 40,000, a record for an Edinburgh home game and a record for this fixture. They had
00:45
to wait almost 70 minutes to see a try though. Edinburgh led 3-0 at half-time through a Ross
00:51
Thompson penalty. Glasgow came more into it in the second half, put Edinburgh under a
00:56
lot of pressure and eventually they were awarded a penalty try in the 60th minute. Edinburgh
01:02
had been warned and Paddy Harrison was shown the yellow card. But Edinburgh bounced back
01:07
very impressively and went straight up from the restart and Piers Schumann scored the
01:12
decisive try, plunging over from close range after starting the move with a nice little
01:17
rubber. Ben Healy converted that and there was no more scoring, so Edinburgh won the
01:23
game 10-7. Glasgow retained the 1872 Cup. They won on aggregate by 40 points to 24,
01:32
were presented with the trophy at the end and looked a little glum face as they lifted
01:35
it. That's the URC now reached its halfway point and Glasgow remain nicely positioned
01:43
in second place. There's now a little mini break before both teams play European matches
01:49
in January. Final score at Murrayfield, Edinburgh 10, Glasgow Warriors 7.
