Hello, it's Graeme Bean at Hamden Park where Glasgow Warriors have just beaten
00:05
Edinburgh 33-14 in the first leg of the 1872 Cup. It's a historic occasion, the first
00:13
time that the Glasgow Warriors have played here in the pro era and they got
00:17
an excellent crowd, almost 28,000 turned up, mainly Warrior supporters to cheer on
00:21
their team. They saw five tries and a convincing win. Glasgow led 33-0 at
00:26
one point but Edinburgh scored two late tries through Boan Venter to give them a
00:30
bit of hope in the second leg at Murrayfield next Saturday. But the day
00:34
belonged to Glasgow, they got off to a great start with a try from Jonny Matthews.
00:37
Edinburgh lost Per Schumann, a yellow card, shortly afterwards for coming at the
00:42
back of Gregor Brown. Hugh Jones then scored Glasgow's second try after
00:50
good work by Tom Jordan. Jonny Matthews then got his second to make it 21-0
00:57
after 27 minutes. Edinburgh's discipline problems continued just after Schumann
01:02
came back on the pitch. They went down 14 men again when Marshall Sykes
01:07
was a yellow card for a high tackle. The half was very much
01:13
dominated by Glasgow. They went into the turn 20-0 up and moved further ahead early in the
01:17
second half with a great try from Kyle Steyn, their captain, backing the team for the
01:22
first time in three months after an injury. It looked like Glasgow were
01:28
really going to record a huge win because Jamie Dobie came off the bench
01:32
and got their fifth try. That made it 33-0 and it could have been a
01:38
record score but credit to Edinburgh, they did fight back towards the end.
01:42
Two tries in the final seven minutes from Boan Venter, their placement prop, both
01:47
from tap penalties from close range and both converted by Ben Healey.
01:52
Overall it was a good occasion, a good crowd, good turnout and Glasgow
01:58
will be the happier of the two teams. They won 33-14.
