Last major health facility in north Gaza 'out of service' after Israeli raid, WHO says

00:00This is the site of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Bet Lahiya.

00:04It was the last major health facility in the north of Gaza, but the World Health Organization

00:08and local health officials say an Israeli raid has officially put it out of service.

00:14The Kamal Adwan Hospital has been subjected to a concentrated military campaign that was

00:19aimed at forcing everyone to evacuate. There were about 350 people inside, including medics,

00:26patients and civilians. We can confirm that the occupation forces have burned down all

00:31the hospital's facilities.

00:33Gaza health officials also say Israeli forces have detained dozens of staff from the hospital,

00:38including its director, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya. He'd been warning that Israeli forces were

00:43besieging the hospital and issuing evacuation orders that morning.

00:48The IDF claims it had become a Hamas stronghold, used as a hideout by militants. The UN has

00:53called on the protection of health facilities.

00:56Sick and injured children are going into this hospital. We're going into this hospital to

01:01get treatment. Sick and injured men, women, we're also going there with medical personnel,

01:09risking their lives in some cases to continue to provide services to people who really need it.

01:15The WHO believes a number of patients in critical condition remain in the hospital, along with

01:20dozens of medical personnel. The raid comes a day after an Israeli strike killed five

01:25staff members in the same area.
