People hold vigil in Sri Lanka to commemorate tsunami dead 20 years on
People gather at a monastery in Sri Lanka's Galle to commemorate the people killed two decades ago when a tsunami hit coastlines around the Indian Ocean in one of the world's worst disasters. In Sri Lanka, more than 35,000 people perished. Ceremonies took place across Asia to remember the 220,000 people killed after a 9.1-magnitude earthquake off Indonesia's western tip on Dec. 26, 2004, generated a series of waves as high as 30 meters (98 feet) that pummeled the coastline of 14 countries.
