Chilly with a patchy frost, and some icy stretches towards the northeast.- This is the Met Office Weather forecast for the evening of 22/12/2024. 00:00Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Petania. We've got

00:04a chilly north to north-westerly air stream affecting the UK at the moment. Low pressure

00:08anchored towards the north-east of the UK. That gives way though to much milder air from

00:11off the Atlantic as we head towards and through the Christmas period. Those yellow and orange

00:15colours indicate much milder conditions as that southwestly breeze starts to pick up.

00:20Back to the detail now for this evening and through the overnight period. A wind warning

00:23in force across northern and western spots until nine o'clock during the evening. The

00:27wind starting to ease down as we go through the overnight period, but still bringing in

00:30a few showers towards the north and north-west of the UK. One or two of those still wintry

00:34in nature across the higher ground in Scotland. The best of the clear spells tonight reserved

00:38for the south and east. And wherever you are, it's only quite chilly. By the morning tomorrow

00:42we could see a touch of frost in one or two places. Temperatures in towns and cities generally

00:46in low single figures. Putting some rural spots down to around freezing. And we could

00:50even see one or two icy patches forming towards the north-east of the UK. As for Monday, then

00:55we see plenty of sunshine across the south and east of the UK. That sunshine tending

00:59a bit hazy into the afternoon as clouds start to increase from the west. And that cloud

01:04always thick enough out towards the north and west of the UK to bring some outbreaks

01:07of rain becoming more widespread here into the course of the afternoon. One or two heavy

01:11bursts at times, particularly across Northern Ireland at first and then in across some Irish

01:15sea areas into the afternoon. The winds are lighter tomorrow, but they will start to pick

01:19up into the north-west of the UK as we go into the afternoon. And quite a chilly day

01:23once again across the south and east of the UK. Temperatures here peaking at around 4

01:28to 6 Celsius, but eventually reaching 7, 8, even locally 9 or 10 degrees out across these

01:33western spots later as that milder air starts to make inroads. As we go through the evening

01:37into the overnight period then, those outbreaks of rain start to make more progress east and

01:41south-east across the UK, holding a generally cloudier day on Christmas Eve. Plenty of cloud

01:47around, some of that cloud low enough to give some mist and fog in places. Outbreaks of

01:50rain in places too, but mainly towards the north-west, elsewhere mostly dry. A lot of

01:54cloud though, so sunshine at a premium, and a little bit of a breeze around too, but much

01:58milder conditions than in recent days. Temperatures widely in double figures, peaking in places

02:03at 12 or 13 Celsius, that's the mid-50s in Fahrenheit, several degrees above where they

02:07should be for the time of year. The cloudier theme continues as we head through the rest

02:12of the Christmas period. We hold on to a lot of cloud though, and temperatures still at

02:15well above where they should be for the time of year, peaking around the low to mid-10s.

02:20Still some rain at times too, but mainly towards the north-west of the UK.
