A yellow weather warning will come into force in the north of Scotland. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 09/09/24. 00:00Hi there, we've seen plenty of interesting contrasts and changes with the UK's weather

00:06during the last week or so and there are more of those to come during the next few days.

00:11At first it's going to turn unsettled, then it's going to turn colder. But for the time

00:16being there is a slice of clear skies crossing the country heading south-eastwards overnight.

00:23Under the clear skies it's going to be a fresher light compared with recent nights with temperatures

00:27in most places high single figures or low double figures. But across northern and increasingly

00:33western parts of the UK showery rain moves in, the winds pick up strength and it is a

00:38very blustery start to Tuesday. Certainly across northern areas with a spell of wet

00:44weather pushing through Scotland and Northern Ireland heading into Northern England and

00:47North Wales by lunchtime. Followed by blustery showers and some more prolonged rain across

00:52Shetland and Orkney, risk of some localised flooding and disruption because of that rain,

00:5740 and in some places 80 millimetres accumulating through the day. All of that accompanied by

01:02strong winds with risk of gales in the far north and north-east of Scotland, 50, perhaps

01:06more mile per hour wind gusts. So a turbulent spell of weather especially for north-east

01:13Scotland but for many it's a blustery day with rain followed by showers, the rain pushing

01:18into south Wales, the Midlands and southern England by the end of the afternoon and into

01:22the evening. It could just about scrape 19 or 20 Celsius in the far south and south-east,

01:27certainly feeling much colder further north, particularly for north-east Scotland with

01:32that wind turning around this area of low pressure to come from the Arctic. And with

01:39that Arctic airflow, well you can see the contrasting colours, we had a much warmer

01:45than average spell at the end of last week, we're going into a much colder than average

01:49spell over the next few days, temperatures down several degrees by comparison to where

01:55they typically sit at this time of year. Now it's a wet evening across southern counties

02:00of England but that rain does swiftly move into the continent and then clear skies follows

02:04and we're into this blustery north to north-westerly airflow, an airflow that is more common in

02:11the winter but not unheard of at this time of year. With the winds coming from the Arctic

02:15it's certainly going to feel colder and it's going to be a cool night with clear skies

02:20widely and temperatures in the single figures widely as well. They would be colder if the

02:25wind wasn't so brisk. But it is going to be a brisk wind and it's going to feel cold in

02:31that wind on Wednesday. There'll be some sunshine around, especially in the south and the east

02:35at times, although just about anywhere could catch a shower. The most frequent showers

02:40will be across the north and north-west, a fair number of them running through the Cheshire

02:44Gap into parts of the Midlands. North Wales also subject to a lot of showers. Northern

02:48Scotland, northern parts of Northern Ireland, basically anywhere exposed to a north-northwesterly

02:54wind and those showers are going to be merging to give longer spells of rain in some of the

02:58most exposed spots as well. Perhaps even some rumbles of thunder and some flashes of lightning.

03:05But away from the showers, some sunny spells out of the wind, not feeling too unpleasant.

03:10Only in the south, compared with the end of last week, the rain won't be constant so

03:14that's one thing that has to be said for it. The showers though will be heavy where they

03:19do come through. And then further showers to come on Thursday before eventually things

03:24start to dry up for a time on Friday, although more rain to come in the north heading into

03:28the weekend.
