Running brought this couple together, so it seemed right to get married at ParkRun

A 5km aisle would be unusual at most weddings, but not for one Canberra couple, who tied the knot today after ParkRun. The pair credited the weekly fun run and shared love of fitness and the outdoors with bringing and keeping them together.

There may not have been something borrowed, blue or old, but as for the new, having enough
00:11
breath to say I do after a park run might just fit the bill.
00:14
It's a five kilometre aisle, that's pretty good I think.
00:17
In true park run style, it all started with a bit of friendly competition.
00:22
We chatted about marriage and Elspeth said I'll only consider it if you can get below
00:28
20 minutes in the five kilometre run.
00:30
It was a couple of months of hard work but I finally got there.
00:33
I just thought you've got to set goals for yourself in sport and in marriage.
00:36
Just an hour and a half after their weekly Saturday morning run, Colin and Elspeth got
00:41
married on the shores of Lake Ginninderra in Canberra's north.
00:44
This is the first time I'll be wearing sneakers as a bride weight and running shorts and a
00:48
running singlet.
00:49
Pink shorts and a pink running top and we even got pink shoes.
00:54
The couple's family and friends were there to celebrate, as were many of their fellow
00:58
park runners, in a nod to the community that helped bring them together.
01:01
I was actually running and I got mixed up in the crowd here and they were really friendly
01:07
and so I thought if you can't lick them, join them because I then joined and I got really
01:11
hooked.
01:12
That love of running and exercise and being outside just spilled over into I think a genuine
01:17
relationship which developed between us.
01:19
A knot that's now firmly tied.
