Dominic Scurr reflects on Newcastle United's 4-0 win at Ipswich Town.

00:00Here at Portman Road where Newcastle United have beaten Ipswich Town 4-0 this

00:05afternoon in the Premier League. Perfect week for Eddie Howe his side, perfect

00:10response to those big questions and concerns raised after the 4-2 defeat at

00:14Brentford. It's a 4-0 win, 4-0 win last weekend and obviously a 3-1 win

00:20against Brentford in the Carabao Cup in midweek. So three games in quick

00:24succession was labelled as a huge week for Eddie Howe and his players and they

00:27have responded in the best way possible. 11 goals, 3 wins and it's looking a

00:33whole lot brighter heading into Christmas. This game probably seemed

00:36like a bit of a banana skin. Throwback to Luton Town last year before Christmas,

00:41newly promoted side that struggled and Newcastle brushed them aside this

00:46afternoon. No small part down to the contributions of Alexander Isak scoring

00:50a hat-trick, ending that sort of barren run or wait for a hat-trick for Newcastle

00:56United players. Five and a half years, champagne problems really, but Iose

01:01Perez, Southampton 2019, April, got that a bit muddled up but yeah that was the last

01:08time a Newcastle player scored a hat-trick. Last time a Newcastle player

01:11scored a hat-trick away from home I believe, Denbigh Bar at Stoke on

01:14Halloween 2011. So yeah it's been a long time coming for an away hat-trick in the

01:18Premier League at least. So yeah Alexander Isak got Newcastle off to a

01:23flyer, 25 seconds in, scores, lengthy VAR check but the goal eventually given and

01:29Jacob Murphy, he has a knack of scoring in these type of games where he just has

01:35that freedom down the right-hand side and you give Jacob Murphy time and space

01:39he's going to get shots away and sometimes sometimes they go over the bar

01:42but hey he really connected well with that shot in off the bar and doubled

01:48Newcastle's lead and then Alexander Isak, Bruno does well, capitalises on a

01:52mistake, Alexander Isak, cool finish to make it 3-0 at the break and then

01:57Alexander Isak makes it 4-0 following some good work from Jacob Murphy. So yeah

02:01shout out to him but again another really comfortable display from Newcastle

02:06United against a poor Ipswich town side if we're being honest. You look at the

02:11disparity of the newly promoted sides Newcastle have faced over in the last

02:16two Premier League games. Leicester had St James' Park last weekend and then

02:20Ipswich today, I mean it's both games have been 4-0 going on 8-0, really easy

02:25without really breaking a sweat Newcastle have brushed these teams aside which is

02:29great to see, something they maybe weren't doing earlier in the season in

02:31the performances and the attacking has really started to click in recent games

02:35and again you go back to the midfield changes, Tonali in the six, Bruno in the

02:40eight, another assist for Bruno today but Tonali again while he didn't get the

02:44goals he maybe got on Wednesday night really dictated things in the midfield

02:49and played well bar a five-minute spell where Newcastle maybe lost a little bit

02:55of control in the game in the first half but again that's a minor, minor blip in a

03:00really solid 90-minute performance and yeah great response to what was a

03:07concerning run of form, it was what was it, it was two wins in 11, Ferdie Howe's

03:12side in the Premier League before this run, now back-to-back wins, looking a

03:17whole lot brighter, heading into Christmas and some big games coming up

03:21Aston Villa on Boxing Day, you go into that game with plenty of confidence now

03:25and then Manchester United to follow, Spurs, Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, the

03:31first leg of that game, some huge games coming up against the big sides in the

03:37league so the question was before this run of games could Newcastle get up for

03:42the so-called lesser teams in the Premier League and they've answered that

03:47question emphatically, now can they carry on the momentum they've built over the

03:51past week and continue playing like we know what they can against these big

03:56teams and really start to get their season up and running in the Premier

04:00League at least, they've reached the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, hope you

04:03can hear me over the lawnmowers there, but reached the semi-final in the Carabao

04:06Cup, Premier League it's been stop-start but looks like starting again, can they

04:11carry that on into the new year and hopefully turn things around really

04:15properly in 2025, we'll have all the reaction from Eddie Howe in this game

04:20and all the build-up to Aston Villa be at the press conference, Eddie Howe's
