00:52women and minority rights, reject terrorism and secure and destroy suspected Assad-era

01:06Turkey reopened its embassy in Syria, becoming the first country to do so since the end of

01:11Bashar al-Assad's rule last weekend.

01:17Footage released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry showed the Turkish flag being raised above

01:22the walled compound in the Syrian capital for the first time since diplomatic ties were

01:29cut in 2012.

01:31The embassy had suspended operations due to escalating security conditions during the

01:36Syrian civil war.

01:38Several countries maintained diplomatic ties with the regime during the 13-year conflict,

01:44while others reopened their missions in recent years as they sought to normalize relations

01:49with al-Assad's government.

01:53The Syrian insurgents who overthrew al-Assad last weekend did so with vital help from Turkey.

02:15In Georgia, an electoral college largely dominated by the ruling Georgian Dream Party

02:20has elected Mikheil Avelashvili, a former football player and a right-wing populist,

02:25as the country's next president.

02:27However, this election comes amid ongoing unrest.

02:31For over two weeks, anti-government protests have rocked the country, sparked by 2024 parliamentary

02:37elections and by the government's decision to delay Georgia's EU accession negotiations.

02:45Outgoing President Salome Zurabishvili has expressed solidarity with the demonstrators,

02:50who have faced violent crackdowns from the authorities.

02:54The authorities have targeted not only protesters but also opposition activists and journalists.

03:02Regardless, protests are ongoing in the streets of Tbilisi and other major cities of Georgia.

03:16South Korea has voted to impeach President Yun over his failed martial law attempt earlier

03:21this month.

03:22The motion passed with 204 votes in favor, 85 against, three abstentions and eight invalid

03:28ballots.

03:29It was the second impeachment vote in the space of a week.

03:54President Yun survived the first vote after the majority of the country's ruling party

03:58boycotted the motion, which means it did not reach the minimum 200 out of 300 votes.

04:06His presidential powers will now be suspended until the Constitutional Court decides within

04:11180 days whether to dismiss him as a president or restore his powers.

04:21The Italian government has granted citizenship to Argentina's President Javier Mele.

04:27Mele is in Rome to meet Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney and to attend her Brothers of Italy

04:34On a previous trip to Italy, Mele said he felt 75% Italian as three of his grandparents

04:40were from Calabria.

04:42But the news has been met with anger on social media from people who say the children of

04:46migrants born in Italy find it hard to obtain citizenship.
