00:00Was looking over some comps because there's not a lot of comps to what Drake may is doing right now

00:04He's on pace to play 13 games throw for

00:082218 yards 14 touchdowns 10 interceptions and a QB rating or a passer rating I should say of

00:1487 I went over the last 10 years or so of drafts and the best two comps I could find

00:20Numbers wise not make up or build or you know arm strength or any of that stuff just numbers wise strictly

00:25That I could find in comparison to Drake May and not just Drake May

00:29But going to a team that was kind of light on weapons kind of light on o-line

00:34Maybe not as light on coaching these guys had better coaches, but in general

00:38I would say they were not great situations for a rookie quarterback to be in but they still managed to put up pretty good numbers

00:44And the team's thought hey, we really got something here with this quarterback, so here's number one

00:49Marcus Mariotta

00:51Who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans played 12 games?

00:552818 yards 19 touchdowns 10 picks a passer rating of 91.5 now Mariotta's problem was injuries

01:02He used to get injured every year, and that was you know a thing that really derailed him

01:07And maybe if he had stayed healthy, then he would have had a different career trajectory

01:11But from a pass catcher perspective his rookie year they had Delaney Walker, and that's it does that sound familiar

01:16Hunter Henry and nobody else it's basically what Drake May has they drafted Corey Davis with the fifth overall pick

01:22Two years later in 2017 he was a colossal whiff

01:26Davis was supposed to be their stud receiver, and he was just a total bust and then a couple years later

01:31I think they drafted AJ Brown, but he was already

01:34Tannehill was already there and Mariotta got benched for Tannehill

01:37And that was it and that was a situation where they picked up the fifth year option, right?

01:41So they believed in him enough to pick up that option

01:44But then they ended up letting him go after that and not signing him to a long-term deal

01:48That was I'd say a pretty bad situation for a quarterback to be in you know they were all about the run game

01:55They didn't really care about surrounding him with anyone

01:57They assumed that he could do it all himself

01:59Or it was just incompetent front office work whatever you choose to believe there the other comp I found for rookie year

02:05Anyway is Daniel Jones

02:07Who is rookie year played 13 games three thousand twenty seven yards 24 touchdowns 12 picks?

02:12Which is better than what Mays on track for and a QB rating or a passer rating about the same eighty seven point seven same

02:18Boat no wide receivers right until neighbors this year, but prior to that

02:22I mean it was a Slayton and Shepard and those guys they whiffed on canaries Tony in the draft. Yep. It was

02:30Basically the same promising not spectacular

02:32But promising rookie years for all three of these guys Drake may included the team struggled to surround them with a viable NFL offense to

02:39And I think both of those situations are basically nightmare scenarios if you're a Drake May fan

02:44Wouldn't you say like you don't want him ending up like Marcus Mariota and Danny dimes?

02:48Four years later getting cut from their teams or worse like that's that's sort of the track that those guys went on now a lot

02:55of other things happen

02:56And it's a it's a different story with the Giants and their front office and Titans and all that

03:01But we all agree that we don't have a ton of faith in the Patriots organization to do the right thing for Drake May

03:06So if they don't that's the path you're looking at you're looking at Mariota. You're looking at Danny dimes those type of guys and

03:12Both of them I'd say are in the flame-out mode if that Mariota's long gone Daniel Jones

03:19I mean, he's on his way down that road as well. You don't want Drake May go in there

03:22I don't and I don't think he is going there

03:24Obviously because I'm you know a little gullible Andy who's a big Drake May guy

03:28Although the long pause yesterday gives me pause for concern

03:32But I will say Drake May was a better prospect than Daniel Jones

03:37so if I'm gonna parse these comps and just sort of how it turned out Daniel Jones was a

03:42Reach. Yeah, it was but he was one of those guys at six pay

03:45Right. Yeah, and people are like that guy's going sixth over like I think Daniel Jones was like a third round pick

03:50They've overdrafted

03:51I think Daniel Jones and Mac Jones are very similar in my opinion in terms of what they were and how they got pushed up

03:57The draft board because of modern QB needs and I would say Marcus Mariota for me

04:02Was a college quarterback that I had my doubts while he was winning the Heisman if he was gonna be an NFL quarter

04:07I don't think he was a great passer. I don't I think Drake May is a far more advanced passer

04:13Coming into the league than Marcus Mariota was but you're right if you and I don't think you actually wrote this down

04:19But I would also wonder over the coaching situations

04:22For those guys in terms of offensive coordinator and changes and scheme and things of that nature

04:27And I don't know the answer because I the Titans went through a couple

04:30I feel like they did if Rabel was like at the end, I think so. Let's see if he was drafted in

04:362015 it was malarkey for three years

04:40Wizenhunt got fired and then replaced with malarkey and then he was there for two more years and then Vrabel the last year and

04:46That

04:48Yeah coordinator situation was via that that is not the best of coaching situations, which I think is a parallel

04:54We're not sure what the hell's going on down

04:55We have no idea for we could be having this same conversation

04:58Ah Mayo was there for two years and then whoever took over and he had two coordinators in three years or whatever

05:05So well, Danny Dimes had Schermer's rookie year then judge for two years and now two three years of day ball

05:10So, you know, I mean the grass isn't always greener, you know, you move on from somebody and

05:15Moving on from Schermer seemed like an obvious move you bring in Joe judge and all of a sudden, you know

05:20This kid's got three years in the toilet and you don't know what to do now

05:23They ended up giving Jones a big contract and they regret it and he had a decent a good year before he got the big

05:29Contract. Yeah, it was he kind of handcuffed them that year really made their decision really tough when they gave him that contract

05:35But you're right. This is as a balls first year. Yeah. Yeah, and this is absolutely a cautionary tale of

05:40False confidence in guys or how you can derail development or how guys can get overrated and then ruined

05:47But there's a million of these stories. I would just say from my perspective

05:52being the gullible Andy

05:54Drake May is a better quarterback than either of those those two guys and Drake May is doing because I don't remember people

06:00Raving about those guys the way they rave about Drake May

06:03I don't remember that with Jones the Winston Mariota draft. I mean they were one and two so people thought I mean in the league

06:09In the league. Yeah, I don't think there was these Dan Orlovsky like

06:14O-faces while he does a three-minute video on things Drake May is doing if Orlovsky was on TV back then he would have maybe

06:20Yeah, maybe he was doing that with Mac Jones two years ago. So yeah, he'll do it any quarterback

06:26He'll be a guy. Absolutely. Maybe you'll see that old face

06:29But I don't know because I think Orlovsky is a geeky QB guy

06:32And I think Mariota was a physical QB guy like he could run throw on the run

06:38He was fun in Oregon, he was a fun player. Yeah, I think he did similar

06:43Pedigree it just in terms of what people liked about him why they thought he'd be a good pros is Drake May

06:49Oh, I don't think so

06:51Cuz I think that scheme at Oregon got a lot of love

06:53That's true that he was coming out of like is it the scheme or is it the player and is the scheme and the player?

06:58Capable of going to the NFL it was a little bit like Vince Young like everybody loved Vince Young

07:03But it was like is he an NFL quarterback? He's a great college quarterback

07:06But is he an NFL quarterback and he wasn't he was not but he might have been he had off-the-field issues that dragged him down

07:12Too that's the other thing. You don't know it factors in the background. So I appreciate your research

07:17It's a bit negative for my liking right now because it paints a picture of you'll be looking for a new quarterback in three years

07:24Well, it's a cautionary tale

07:25Yes

07:26It is a cautionary tale of here's what happens if you don't surround your quarterback who's looks promising on a bad team

07:32With good players on offense. That's what it is

07:34That's I don't I don't necessarily mean it to say this is what's gonna happen to Drake May

07:38But it is what's gonna happen to Drake May if you just keep missing in the draft and whiffing on free agents

07:43That's what's gonna happen

07:43This is the roadies gonna go down and sir

07:45I would like to see that not happen with the Giants the offensive line whiffing and not that a good enough offensive line in front

07:51Of him with any consistency would be part of the story and that's a concern

07:54that was the eye-opening thing that I didn't really know from the re story you referenced that they had the

08:00NFL's worst pass win rate or whatever last year and they still have having the same exact worst

08:07Ranking in the NFL year-to-year is horrific

08:10Yeah, pretty bad and we knew we knew that Elliot Wolf whiffed on the offensive line

08:14But that just puts it in in numbers and statistics right in front of you

08:18You were 32nd in pass blocking win rate last year

08:21You made all these signings and draft picks and you're still 32nd in pass block win rate

08:26Why should I trust them again to fix mistakes? Yeah, no real reason
