00:00This is going to be a hall of fame walk, you know.
00:07Kane, WWE legend, hall of famer, now mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
00:15Glenn Jacobs, as he's now known, has been called by Ric Flair,
00:21the greatest big man in professional wrestling.
00:26Well, who better person to walk with than Kane?
00:30And as always, we are hydrated by body armor.
00:44Man, I got you something too, though.
00:47So, now you got your nice...
00:52When you're on Rocky Top, you can wear this.
00:55Oh, thank you.
00:59Beautiful.
01:01Well, thanks for joining the walk.
01:033X, that's what I fit now.
01:05I used to be 6X, now I'm 3X.
01:07There you go.
01:09I'm shrinking.
01:10There you go.
01:11Hey, man, nothing wrong with that.
01:12All right, so you weren't rocking the Dolphins jacket today.
01:17Yeah.
01:18Dolphins fan?
01:19Yeah, I'm a Dolphins fan.
01:22Nothing wrong with the Dolphins.
01:23Nothing wrong with the Dolphins.
01:25How's Tua and everything?
01:29How's all that going to work out?
01:31He's been playing better.
01:32If he stays healthy, they have a chance.
01:34If not, they're done.
01:37They probably have the worst backup in the league.
01:41How do you really feel about that, Frank?
01:44He gave me the hand of the ball.
01:46All right, so let's go for a nice little walk.
01:48Sounds good.
01:51Beautiful socks.
01:52Yeah, I saw them.
01:53For my mind, the attitude error is the greatest error in the history of professional wrestling.
01:58Hold on a second.
01:59Sorry.
02:02You guys are awesome.
02:03You have Baby Yoda with a belt.
02:09You can see that.
02:13There you go.
02:14That's the sign of true fans right there, man.
02:16Yes.
02:17You're also a Mets guy, right?
02:18Yes.
02:20What differentiated between the Yankees and the Mets?
02:24When I was nine years old, Dwight Gooden was dominating him.
02:29That kind of got me to the Mets.
02:33Plus, the Mets are the people's team, the heart team.
02:38The Yankees are the elitist team.
02:42The Yankees are Wall Street?
02:44Yes.
02:45Gosh.
02:48The Yankees are Wall Street and the Mets are Main Street?
02:50Yes.
02:51So, you do realize that I'm a Cardinals fan, right?
02:56Oh, God.
02:57Those 80s rivalries.
03:01I tell you the player, the athlete of all sports I hate the most is Vince Coleman.
03:07Really?
03:08Yes.
03:09Because his time on the Mets was so bad.
03:11Yeah.
03:12And it ended with him throwing firecrackers at a kid.
03:14Yeah.
03:15Yeah, I guess that's true.
03:18But I still hate the Cardinals for those 80s rivalries.
03:23No offense, man, but to me the Mets are always going to be pond scum.
03:26Pond scum.
03:27That was the name.
03:28That's what you all called us.
03:30Pond scum.
03:31You know what's funny?
03:33Tommy Hearn ended up playing with the Mets for a couple of years.
03:36Well, Keith Hernandez, too.
03:37Oh, yeah.
03:38Keith Hernandez.
03:40Big Keith Hernandez fan and he's a great announcer.
03:43And then Carter played for the Mets.
03:46Daryl Carter, right?
03:47And then ended up catching for the Cardinals later, I think.
03:50No, he never went to the Cardinals.
03:51Did he not go to the Cardinals?
03:52No.
03:53Or was it Kansas City and the Royals?
03:56I can't remember.
03:57Oh, he went to the Dodgers after the Mets.
03:59Okay.
04:00Pushing the limits of my sports knowledge there, man.
04:02Well, wrestling, that's your knowledge.
04:04That's your base.
04:05Yes.
04:06The Attitude Era, to me, I think is the greatest era of professional wrestling.
04:11Agreed.
04:12It was just how creative it got.
04:14You were battling WCW, losing for a while.
04:22I mean, one of your first gimmicks before you became Kane was doing Fugazi Diesel.
04:31Yes.
04:32Probably one of the worst gimmicks of all time.
04:36I can settle with a couple bad ones there.
04:38Yeah, well, Dr. Yankum, too.
04:40Dr. Yankum, too.
04:41Yeah.
04:42But I think that's a testament how great a wrestler and how great a performer you are.
04:47How many wrestlers get to survive two awful gimmicks?
04:51Yeah.
04:52Yeah.
04:53That is very true.
04:55The first time that I heard about the Ice Yankum gimmick, I literally was like,
05:00wait, you flew me up here from Knoxville, Tennessee, to tell me I was going to be a wrestling dentist?
05:05A bit of a disconnect.
05:08But what it did do is allow me to get my foot in the door.
05:11Yeah.
05:12Well, that was the WWF, or what it was called back then, 1993.
05:18It was like everyone had a job.
05:20They had a hockey goon wearing a Devil's jersey.
05:24Yeah, yeah.
05:25It was definitely a lot more over the top as far as kind of cartoonish characters.
05:30The Repo Man.
05:31Yeah.
05:32And then that was really flipped, though, when Austin took off.
05:36Yeah.
05:37And they got away from all the cartoonish stuff and really embraced the cutting-edge stuff.
05:47The Rock.
05:48The Rock is the guy whose career is, I think, mostly affected.
05:52He debuted ten years earlier.
05:55Hey.
05:56Hey.
05:57Hey, how are you guys doing?
05:58Can I take a picture?
05:59Can I please take a picture?
06:00If we do it fast, we're on camera on air time here.
06:04Somebody take a picture.
06:07Oh, my God, King.
06:09King.
06:10King.
06:11King.
06:13On Monday.
06:14I love it.
06:15All in New York.
06:16Oh, my God.
06:18King.
06:19Oh, my God.
06:20Frank, can we get Frank in here?
06:22Yeah, let's go.
06:23You guys know Frank from Barstool?
06:25Yeah.
06:26He's the man.
06:28Thanks, fellas.
06:29Thanks, bud.
06:30Good to see you, bro.
06:31Good to see you, man.
06:32All right.
06:33You guys take care.
06:34All right.
06:35Have a good one, buddy.
06:36Take care.
06:37Thank you all.
06:38Sorry.
06:39Not today.
06:40Sorry, guys.
06:41All right, man.
06:42Will do.
06:43Hey, guys.
06:44Mr. Mayor, I have to say, we've done a lot of walks.
06:49We've gotten recognized a lot.
06:53We've never had everyone go to the desk.
06:58That's funny.
06:59That's funny.
07:00But, yeah, the whole landscape changed.
07:03Rocky Maivia, 10 years earlier, would have been a fan favorite, but the fans hated him
07:09because they were tired of the old black and white, good guy, bad guy.
07:14Yeah, that's exactly right.
07:17Yeah.
07:18I think that was the greatest thing that ever happened in professional wrestling.
07:22Well, it was, and you were talking earlier about the Monday Night Wars and the fact that,
07:28yeah, we were losing.
07:30And if you're a fan, that was a great time period because you had all this cool stuff
07:35happening.
07:36When you were one of the guys, that was a great time period.
07:42When you were one of the guys, that was not a good time because whoever lost was out of
07:48a job, so it really did compel you to put forth the best product that you possibly could.
08:03Not as Kane.
08:09Not the longevity.
08:11Because who knows, right?
08:13It was one of the great debuts.
08:14Yeah, I think it was the greatest debut ever.
08:17And it wasn't me, that was just everything had been set up perfectly, right?
08:26Being immediately put into a storyline with The Undertaker, you realize that's a big deal.
08:31But I didn't think that it would go on for 30 years, almost.
08:38So, yeah, that was a very pleasant surprise.
08:43Mine and Taker's?
08:44Oh, great.
08:45He's one of my best friends from the wrestling business.
08:49We still keep in touch.
08:54I remember one time someone was telling me that he was more concerned with me than he
08:58was himself.
08:59I remember something was not going well for me and I was complaining about it.
09:04Mark had already gone and talked to the writers and everything, so he's always a huge advocate
09:08of mine.
09:10Now, one of the things that started happening is the regular appearances of Pete Rose.
09:16Yes.
09:17And it always seems like he'd end up challenging and he'd end up at the wrong end of a choke
09:23slam.
09:24Yes, yes.
09:25That pretty much sums up our relationship.
09:29Pete was awesome.
09:32And if he hadn't been a should-be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, definitely he'd have been a
09:38great professional wrestler.
09:39He was a tremendous heel.
09:41When he did the introduction at Boston right before my match with Undertaker, that was
09:50just him.
09:51He told the fans there, he left tickets for Billy Buckner but he couldn't bend over to
09:55pick him up.
09:57One of the greatest lines ever, right?
09:59And then Pete also...
10:01Had a great 75 World Series.
10:03Yeah.
10:04And Pete didn't take himself seriously or anything like that.
10:08He had a great self-deprecating sense of humor.
10:11Wasn't afraid to make fun of him.
10:12But that was always funny.
10:13Pete Rose ended up on the wrong end of a choke slam.
10:17Poor Pete.
10:18Yeah, he would just show up one day and he'd get choke slammed and that was the end of
10:22Pete for a year.
10:24Now, who are the five best wrestlers you went against?
10:27The five strongest wrestlers.
10:28Oh, man.
10:29Would you say that you're contemporary?
10:32Because Ric Flair says that you are one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
10:36Especially one of the greatest big men.
10:37Man, I was incredibly fortunate.
10:40I had so many matches with so many different wrestlers.
10:45So, it's really hard for me to say.
10:47Obviously, Undertaker is at the very top of the list.
10:51But then you've also got Austin and The Rock.
10:53Triple H.
10:54Shawn Michaels.
10:55Daniel Bryan.
10:57Randy Orton.
10:58John Cena.
10:59Even Bret Hart.
11:00So, it's hard for me to say these are the top folks.
11:05Because it almost depends what day you catch me is who I'm going to tell you, right?
11:10But, ultimately, Undertaker has to top the list because he was so important for my career in general.
11:18Yes.
11:19Yeah.
11:20Your rival and tag team partner was always.
11:23Yeah.
11:24I heard a lot that you were the physically strongest of all the big men.
11:29I was pretty strong.
11:31However, you had people who weren't quite human like Big Show and Mark Henry.
11:35So, I was the strongest human.
11:38But I wasn't necessarily the strongest guy in WWE.
11:41Because those guys are a little more than human, I think.
11:43Who's the guy you would least want to fight in real life from your history?
11:47Oh, gosh.
11:48So, Brock Lesnar, obviously.
11:53But, Kurt Angle as well.
11:56I mean, Kurt was an unbelievable grappler.
12:00You know, he won the Olympics with a broken neck.
12:03He weighs like 215, 220 pounds, whatever.
12:07He's going up against the heavyweights.
12:09Just an unbelievable amateur wrestler.
12:15Now, of course, Brock with the MMA stuff.
12:18Kind of more of a total package.
12:20But, trust me, you don't want to run into either of those guys in a dark alley.
12:25Trust me on that.
12:27Now, what do you think the future for professional wrestling is at this stage?
12:33It seems like it now looks like the new regimes have fully taken over.
12:38Vince is out.
12:39And now we're going in new directions.
12:41Everything is going on Netflix next year.
12:44Especially WWE.
12:45What do you think the future is?
12:47That's a great question.
12:50Obviously, yeah, the merger with Endeavor has changed a lot of stuff backstage.
12:58And we're not saying more than anything.
13:01I've been really excited with Triple H as head of creative.
13:07He has one of the best wrestling minds.
13:10Well, actually, the best wrestling mind of anybody I've ever seen.
13:13So, you look at NXT and his creation.
13:19I think the future is very bright.
13:22The model has changed now.
13:24It used to be we were traveling all the time and shows all the time.
13:29That's not as much nowadays.
13:33Yeah, you guys never had an off day.
13:35It was like we didn't.
13:37This whole thing, obviously, just like with the other sports,
13:40it's become somewhat of a TV product.
13:43But you look at on the business side, you look at WWE's revenues,
13:48and the company has never been more profitable.
13:50So, it's very healthy.
13:52And I think on the entertainment side, with Paul Levesque as the creative driver,
14:01there's a lot of really good things going to happen in the future for the company.
14:04Well, that sounds good.
14:07And, of course, you're the mayor of Knox County now.
14:09Yes, sir.
14:10And Tennessee, you know, they're having a great season.
14:13They are.
14:14They are.
14:15They have Vandy coming up as their next game.
14:19They win that game.
14:20That's no pushover this year.
14:22Vandy's got a very good team.
14:23Vandy's already beat Bama.
14:25Damn it.
14:26They're bowl eligible themselves.
14:27So, but if Tennessee wins that game, and they should,
14:31they'll qualify for the playoffs and hopefully even get a home game,
14:34which would be amazing.
14:37Well, and we also can't forget, you know, with Tony Vitello,
14:43they've easily got the best college baseball program in the country right now.
14:48Basketball is doing really well.
14:50Lady Vols just hired a new coach, Kim Caldwell.
14:53Kevin Nash actually played basketball.
14:56He did, yes.
14:57At the University of Tennessee.
14:58Yeah, he sure did.
14:59He sure did.
15:00One last question for you.
15:01All right.
15:02What was your favorite match you ever participated in?
15:04So, I have three favorite matches.
15:07When I beat Stone Cold Steve Austin to win the WWE championship,
15:13then also the WrestleMania match against Undertaker,
15:16my first match against him,
15:17and then the Inferno match against Undertaker.
15:19So, they're all kind of like within a year of one another,
15:22but those to me, that was also like the best time for WWE.
15:27The Inferno match.
15:28Yeah.
15:29Yeah.
15:30Well, thanks.
15:31Thanks again.
15:32Thanks, man.
15:33Thanks, buddy.
15:34I'm sure it'll be a great episode, and thanks again for joining us.
15:39And got to shout out Coach Duggs because he's the one who helped get this set up.
15:44That's right.
15:45Coach Duggs, very successful UT football coach, by the way.
15:47Led him to straight national championships.
15:50So, now they're doing it on the field as well.
15:52Yes.
15:53So, let's keep it up, right?
15:54Yes.
15:55Let's keep it up.
15:56Let's keep it up.
15:57Let's keep it up.
15:58Let's keep it up.
15:59Let's keep it up.
16:00Let's keep it up.
16:01Let's keep it up.
16:02Let's keep it up.
16:03Let's keep it up.
16:04Let's keep it up.
16:05Let's keep it up.
16:06Let's keep it up.
16:07Let's keep it up.
16:08Let's keep it up.
16:09Let's keep it up.
16:10Let's keep it up.
16:11Let's keep it up.
16:12Let's keep it up.
16:13Let's keep it up.
16:14Let's keep it up.
16:15Let's keep it up.
16:16Let's keep it up.
16:17Let's keep it up.
16:18Let's keep it up.
16:19Let's keep it up.
16:20Let's keep it up.
16:21Let's keep it up.
