00:00Senate President Francis Escudero says the upper chamber has not done any initial preps for the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte,
00:08but they are ready to fulfill the role if the need arises.
00:11The Senate leader admits, though, that public sentiment on the matter may affect the stand of senators and lower house solons,
00:18as public opinion may be swayed based on the evidence that will be presented.
00:23On the possibility the vice president would need to be replaced,
00:26the Senate president explains who could possibly be chosen as a suitable replacement.
00:31In the meantime, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri expressed his view and hope,
00:35if ever the impeachment case is elevated to the Senate.
00:40The line of succession will not be followed, but the president will nominate.
00:44That was the first time that happened in our system, and we saw that it ran smoothly.
00:49So he will choose, and after he chooses, it will be confirmed by majority vote of the House and Senate, voting separately.
00:58If that happens, he will be replaced as the second president.
01:02And that happened to the then-senator who became Vice President Teofisto Ingon.
01:08We would not want to see an impeachment proceedings in the Senate, because obviously it's going to be very divisive.
01:14I hope there will be no chaos, because we don't want chaos at this point in time.
