00:00Senate President Francis Chief Escudero clarified that there is no intention to request a special

00:05session to expedite the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

00:10Escudero said on Monday that the impeachment trial may start after President Ferdinand

00:15R. Marcus Jr. states of the nation address Ursana in July of this year.

00:20The Senate president also underscored that impeachment is a constitutional process designed

00:25to hold public officials accountable and urged both the public and lawmakers to approach

00:29it without fear or political bias.

00:32One question about potential issues arising if the 19th Congress does not initiate the

00:37impeachment trial, particularly concerning the possibility of some signatory congressmen

00:42not securing re-election.

00:45Escudero reiterated that the Senate would not be pressured into conducting the trial.

00:49I have no intentions of requesting the president for a special session.

00:54This is not one of the reasons for calling for a special session of the Senate.
