Tim The Yowie Man explores the newly opened final leg of the Snowies Alpine Walk

The final section of the 56km multi-day walk in Kosciuszko National Park has opened in time for the summer holidays

00:00After much expectation the final stretch of the 56 kilometer Snowys Alpine Walk

00:06throughout Kosciuszko National Park opened earlier this week. This

00:11spectacular 12 kilometer section links Bullocks Flat near Lake Krakenbach to

00:16Perisher Valley a changing altitude of over 600 meters. Now if you're a fitness

00:23fanatic you might choose to walk it uphill but a word of warning you'll have

00:27to keep stopping and turning around or you'll miss the magnificent mountain

00:31views which you can enjoy after almost every step if walking downhill. Leaving

00:38from Perisher the walk meanders across the top of the Rams Head Range before

00:43descending via 700 handcrafted rock stairs to the Thredbo River. Up high

00:49you'll walk through stands of twisted snow gums and wildflower meadows but as

00:55you descend you'll discover pockets of temperate rainforest complete with

00:58waterfalls and tall mountain gums some uprooted by recent storms. You can step

01:05out along the track as a day walk or bunk down in one of the villages and

01:09tackle some of the other sections of the walk that crisscross the roof of

01:14Australia. My pick of which is from Charlotte Pass to Gathega which boasts a

01:20couple of knockout suspension bridges. The weather can change at any time so

01:26plan ahead and pack for all seasons most of all have fun.
