Do you remember when you were sleeping on this bench?
00:02
Yes.
00:02
And how were you feeling?
00:04
Low.
00:05
Hmm?
00:06
I was feeling low as it got.
00:07
I know you were.
00:08
I'm in all emotions thinking about it.
00:10
A few weeks ago, every morning I came into work
00:13
and there was an elderly guy sleeping where I'm sitting now.
00:18
And I'd go up to him and say,
00:20
are you okay?
00:21
I'd seen him around Wensbury
00:23
but I didn't know him that well.
00:25
You know I'm fine, I'm fine,
00:27
I'm getting the keys to my flat tomorrow.
00:29
I said, are you okay?
00:31
And he'd get up, he'd leave, never cause any problems.
00:34
But then every night for the next week
00:39
he would still be here in the bus station every morning
00:43
sleeping on the hard metal seats.
00:45
No cupboards, no seat.
00:47
And I thought, this just isn't right for a 75-year-old male.
00:51
So I contacted Streetlink, which is one of our partners.
00:56
He lost everything in his house, his flat fire.
00:59
He got the keys back to his flat.
01:01
I run a local Wensbury page called Wensbury People on Facebook
01:06
and put out a plea to the local community.
01:10
And I was just overwhelmed by the response.
01:13
He got a bed, he got a fridge, he got a settee, he got chairs,
01:17
he got bedding, he got clothes,
01:19
he got everything people could possibly need in the kitchen.
01:22
All through the kindness of strangers.
01:24
People just wanted to help.
01:28
And I was just overwhelmed.
01:30
And now he's back in his flat.
01:32
I can't believe how grateful I am.
01:34
I would have been dead.
01:35
Every bus station supervisor would have done the same as I did.
01:38
I can guarantee you that.
