I tried McDonald's limited edition chilli double cheeseburger

We headed down to our nearest McDonald's to grab a brand new and limited edition chilli double cheeseburger to see what all the fuss was about...

00:00Hi guys, my name's Jack Marshall. I'm a digital food and drink and lifestyle reporter for

00:08the City World Metro Group and welcome today outside my local Maccy's. I'm here doing another

00:14food review of a limited edition chilli burger which is being offered by Maccy's. Now it's

00:22a bit of a departure from what they normally do. To do like a chilli cheeseburger is something

00:26which is more classically you think of like your sloppy joes and things like that. It's

00:31very American but Maccy's never really done it. So yeah, it's very Mexican tinged, it's

00:37got jalapenos on it, it's got obviously loads of chilli on it. I'm anticipating it being

00:41horrifically messy. So yeah, pray for me when it comes to cleaning up the glamorous location

00:46that is my car. Got the burger here, cost me £2.49 which is pretty standard fare for Maccy's

00:52to be honest, nothing outstanding. Let's have a look. Now first look at the burger and it

01:02looks pretty underwhelming to be honest. It's pretty standard Maccy's like that but on top

01:07you'll be able to see it's got some jalapenos and I mean a pretty meagre amount of what

01:14you'd call very generously chilli. It looks more like chilli jam really that you buy fancy

01:19for Christmas. So yeah, that looks like a very typically Maccy's burger. Pretty plasticky.

01:26Smells quite Mexican to be fair. It smells better than it looks. So yeah, it smells quite

01:31spicy. Now I'm a massive fan of jalapenos and I'm a massive fan of gherkins as well

01:34so hopefully this tastes better than it looks because it smells better than it looks so

01:38I'm going to stop talking. Okay, so the thing I'm really getting is like an almost concerningly

01:52classic Mexican taste like it's been like biologically engineered to taste exactly like

01:58you'd want Mexican food to taste which is exactly what it has been done. Yeah, it's

02:05not, it doesn't really taste like there's chilli on there. No wait, let me rephrase

02:10that. It tastes like there's chilli on there, it doesn't feel in your mouth like there's

02:14chilli on there. It's got a chilli flavour, like chilli con carne flavour and the jalapenos

02:19are very, they're pretty mild. They're definitely on there but it's not really, I don't know,

02:26it's confusing me. It tastes nicer than it looks so yeah. Yeah, the Maccy's burgers are

02:38classic Maccy's burgers. The chilli, it's really surprised me this. This is just like,

02:46it's like a chilli jam thing, it's not like the classic meaty chilli con carne. It's just

02:51like a layer of flavouring on top of a double cheeseburger. It's not nice, it is nice, it's

02:57just I didn't quite expect that from something which is essentially just a little layer of

03:01sweet chilli, what feels like a sweet chilli jam but let's have a go with some, quite a

03:06few jalapenos. They go quite nicely with the gherkins, if you'll excuse me talking with

03:17my mouth full. Nice bit of saltiness to it. It's okay, you know. It is okay. Obviously

03:26now when you're paying £2.49 for a Maccy's burger, you're not expecting anything to blow

03:32you away. You're not expecting gourmet food. You've literally got change from £2.50 for

03:39this. It's okay. If you were really hungry, slightly hungover over the Christmas period

03:46in the lead up to Christmas, and you were like, I need something to take the edge off,

03:51this wouldn't be a terrible option. So yeah, I'm a little more taken aback by this. When

03:58I opened it up, I was so underwhelmed. The flavour is way better than what I expected

04:03it to be. And I also don't understand how they've made it taste like that. It tastes

04:08a lot like chilli, yet seems to have no chilli on it, except for this weird chilli jam. Maybe

04:13I'm being harsh. Anyway, we'll call it a day there. Let us know if you've tried one

04:31menu at some point. But yeah, I'm suitably confused whilst being slightly strangely impressed,

04:38which is a strange place to be in. Yeah, wasn't expecting this from Maccy's. But yeah, that's
