00:03A fundraiser has been set up to help buy an off-road motorised wheelchair for a much-loved

00:08family man, friend and colleague from Chesterfield.

00:10Gary Wilkes, who is 57, a former window cleaner and dog agility trainer at the North Derbyshire

00:16Dog Agility Club, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer in his bones, in 2021.

00:22While his illness was not curable, it was treatable, and in 2022 Gary received a stem

00:27cell transplant which was supposed to give him three to five years of remission.

00:31But his life was turned upside down when one morning he woke up to find that his legs were

00:36unstable.

00:37He went to the hospital where it was determined that a tumour was pushing onto his spinal

00:40cord.

00:41Now, Alison Rigby, Gary's friend from the agility club, has set up a fundraiser to help

00:46finance an off-road motorised wheelchair for him.

00:49The fundraiser, which was set up only a few days ago, has already raised £6,000.

00:55Alison said,

01:10A number of flood alerts have been issued for rivers in Derbyshire today after heavy

01:13rainfall and snow melt saw water levels rise over the weekend.

01:17The Environment Agency, which issued the alerts, said,

01:25Police plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and

01:29avoid contact with floodwater.
