It's a bustling morning at PPR in Thanbaiduri.
00:20
51-year-old single mother Valli Rajangam has a full day of work ahead of her and excitedly
00:26
heads to the ground floor of her building.
00:29
Her destination?
00:30
Dapur Digital, a cloud kitchen launched by social enterprise Pepper Labs in September
00:35
with the sole aim of empowering women like Valli from the B40 community.
00:41
PPR in Thanbaiduri is Pepper Labs' fifth Dapur Digital and for many of the participants
00:46
here, this is their first step into entrepreneurship.
00:50
They were hesitant to start on their own because it needs model, it needs commitment and they
00:56
are afraid to take some risks.
00:58
But when we gave them this opportunity, everything is provided, even startup model, utilities,
01:05
everything was covered by Pepper Labs before this.
01:08
So they thought, why don't they grab this opportunity?
01:12
And one more thing that I have to highlight here, these participants are staying here.
01:16
So let's say they have kids, small kids at home or parents to look after, they can finish
01:21
their slots, they can go back.
01:23
So it gives them that empowerment to become an entrepreneur.
01:27
Every morning, the women at PPR in Thanbaiduri, scrub utensils, prepare the ingredients to
01:33
cook their famous ayam gemprit dishes and wait for orders to roll in from food delivery
01:39
platforms.
01:50
Dapur Digital was launched early this year with the idea to transform underutilized spaces
01:56
in PPRs into thriving cloud kitchens equipped with everything participants needed to succeed.
02:04
Participants undergo a 24-month mentorship to run the Dapur Digital as budding entrepreneurs
02:10
with a 12-week micro-credential course on cloud kitchen management run by UNITA.
02:27
There are many ways for us to manage food, how to open a shop, what we need to do, everything
02:36
from A to Z.
02:38
Because outside, we have to pay special fees to study.
02:43
Classes are highly focused with one lecturer for every 10 students, and assessments ensure
02:49
that they understand the material.
02:51
After graduation from UNITA and also after graduating this program, they should be able
02:56
to be a successful entrepreneur on their own.
03:00
That means they have their own products, they have their own branding, they can do better
03:05
marketing at outside.
03:07
And the results speak for themselves.
03:09
One of our participants' husband died of cancer, and she had to take care of the family.
03:16
Other than the government aids that she received, she had no opportunity to generate income.
03:22
But through this Dapur Digital, she already started to generate income at least of 1,500 monthly.
03:29
Because of this initiative, she can bring back money to her home, and not only taking
03:34
care of kids and also paying utilities, this is the first time she's buying something for herself.
03:40
With plans to expand the initiative to 20 more locations after securing 5 million ringgit
03:46
under Belanjawan 2025, Dapur Digital's impact will continue to grow.
03:51
It won't serve only as Dapur Digital.
03:54
So we are going to enhance the capacity as a community hub, which we already started,
03:59
and also as economic empowerment centers, where we encourage all the startups or any
04:04
private or public institutions to collaborate with us to do more.
04:09
As for the women of PPR Intan Baiduri, they are already thinking about life as entrepreneurs
04:15
beyond Dapur Digital.
04:17
God willing, in the future, maybe everything will be more advanced.
04:22
Maybe there will be more opportunities.
04:25
For me, I would like to further improve the way I prepare this drink.
04:32
Because I think it can bring out, I mean, we can make it a part of our lives too.
