Adrian Lyles caught up with Billboard's Rania Aniftos at the Billboard No. 1s Party 2024.

00:00We're here with Adrian Lyles. Okay, well you're fresh off a new single, I understand, right?

00:04So tell me a bit about the inspo behind it.

00:06Oh my gosh, well the new single, it just came out, it's called Somewhere to Go,

00:09and I wanted to write a song that felt like not trying to find home in a place,

00:15but find home in a person, you know? I wanted a lot of it to feel very like

00:19longing and searching for something, and by the end of the song you feel like you found it,

00:23and you found someone that makes any place feel like a safe home kind of place.

00:28I love that, and that can be interpreted in so many ways, you know? Family, friends,

00:32romantic partners, like love is abundant in that way.

00:35Absolutely, you know? I think that, you know, you'll move around your whole life,

00:39but like finding a person that can make any house feel like home, that's a very special thing.

00:44I love that, I love that, and you obviously do acting a bunch as well.

00:48What is the main differences between playing a role, playing someone else,

00:53and doing stuff for yourself? Like where do you find the struggles,

00:55or like the commonalities even maybe in that creatively?

00:58Well, you know, I find, I try to be as authentic as possible with everything that I do,

01:06so even in the acting, when I have to play a role, I try to find a place that feels like I'm

01:11pulling from myself, you know? I think there are a lot of people that do that really well,

01:14like Donald Glover, I think does it really well.

01:16That's very true.

01:17You know? Where no matter what movie he's in, he's Donald Glover, and so I try to do that

01:22in the music and in the acting, like this feels like something I would actually say,

01:26it feels like a way I would actually do or say the line that I'm saying,

01:30and then in the music it's easy, you know, it just comes out.

01:33I love that, I mean you have a great head on your shoulders,
