Hunter communities unite to find desperately needed foster carers.

Hunter communities are uniting to address the critical shortage of carers in the region, and call on those willing and able to contact a foster care agency - any foster care agency - to provide a home for a child in need.

00:00Currently, there are children living in temporary accommodation, not with their families and

00:05with no caring adults to look after them.

00:08The youngest of these children are just four years old, and some of these children have

00:13been living in these situations for up to two years.

00:16Right now, across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the Hunter region, we have a serious shortage

00:22of foster carers for children in need.

00:26This is a community problem that needs a community solution.

00:29Through no fault of their own, there are many children that come into the statutory

00:32out-of-home care system that need a safe and loving home with a foster carer.

00:37They're in your children's classes, they're in your local sporting teams, they may even

00:43be living next door to you.

00:45Most people are a bit unsure about who can be a foster carer.

00:49The truth is, there is not just one type of foster carer.

00:52But you may be thinking, I can't foster children, what can I do to help?
