Kaptin Korma up for "Curry Oscar" award

Kaptin Korma in Wolverhampton is up against restaurants from across the country and into Europe for the chance to at the Asian Curry Awards on Sunday, November 17.

00:00Okay, hello I'm Joseph Mirovic and I'm here with Captain Cormer here in Bradbury Wolverhampton.

00:05I'm here with the manager Abdul Basit where they have been shortlisted for the

00:0914th Asian Curry Awards 2024 for the best restaurants. It's a big award and

00:14it's one that I think they've won before, is that right Abdul? Yeah, we went to another

00:18one, Timica award two or three months before and then we got the award for best

00:22restaurant in Wolverhampton. So for yourself, to have this sort of

00:28national recognition, what does it mean to you? Of course a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot

00:32means anyway because this is our hard work and then we doing this industry's

00:37life from 2013 and then this is the award for, not for us, for customers

00:42supporting us from 2013. That's the thing because you've obviously been

00:48around for a while and you've got a lot of competition because Wolverhampton's full

00:51of Indian restaurants. Yes. So what is it about this place you think makes it

00:55stand out? This is the, Captain Koma, we made our food like customers demand, they

01:02can order whatever they like basically out of the menu and the customers they

01:07tell us what they want and then we make it on the spot like there's

01:10specialties and then after that like we, you know, customers they like

01:16food and then you know atmosphere and then everything and that's it. I think the

01:22location of this place kind of helps as well, you've got a pub over there, you're

01:25near a park, so you've got the sort of passenger train from that, you've got

01:28neighborhood nearby but obviously it's not just the the neighborhood and the food

01:31there's obviously something about what you and your staff do here. Oh yeah, staff,

01:35we have the staff from 2013 and all their staff are really, they're doing

01:40really good and then we have a five star rating from 2013 till here now so of

01:44course like all the times staff they're supporting us, without my staff we

01:48can't do nothing and then it starts and then our customers especially, thanks to

01:53customers because they're voting us and there was a huge difference vote and

01:57then we did, we got the award and then we got another one, we're gonna go to the

02:01award and then of course like we're gonna get another award in for 2024

02:07reading hard work for everyone. That's fantastic, looking ahead yeah, if you win

02:13the award it'll obviously be a fantastic recognition itself but it's not just, I

02:16suppose it's just an honor to be on that shortlist with restaurants all over the

02:19country and as we pointed out further abroad as well. Yeah, we're trying to yeah

02:24because this is the award is coming from everyone, Europe and then you know from

02:29Asia and everywhere, everybody's gonna participate in this but of course like

02:34it's gonna be, if I get that award for the Birmingham, Wolverhampton, basically we

02:39are nominating for Wolverhampton and then we recognise, we love the Wolverhampton

02:42cities and then we are here and then probably we're gonna get that award soon.

02:48And what would you say is the show-stopping curry here? What's the meal

02:52that people most speak about? Oh yeah because we have a nice you know menus,

02:58you can order from our menu anything, all the dishes are specialist and our

03:03chefs and then our, we're making food for our passion anyway but we love all the

03:09menus, dishes, everything is nicer and then I'm gonna let you know, I'm gonna

03:14tell you about that chef competition taking place in Birmingham last two,

03:19three months before and then all the chefs was there, 32, we came fourth out

03:25of 32, so we got that award as well, chef competition. And what would you like to say

03:30to all the customers who've nominated you and put you forth for this award? Oh yeah, I'm

03:34gonna say a huge thanks to our customers for supporting us all the way from

03:382013 to 2024, just thanks to everyone and thanks for you as well, thanks for

03:44coming. Well we try our best here, he'll be up for the award this weekend
