Social media users have been resharing a misleading clip of an influencer claiming that the energy drink Celsius contains dangerous levels of cyanide.

00:08Social media users have been sharing and reacting to a clip of an influencer
00:13claiming that the energy drink Celsius contains dangerous levels of cyanide.
00:20In the short clip taken from a speech Gary Brecker gave in January 2023,
00:26the 10x Health System founder claimed that the Celsius energy drink
00:31has four times the amount of daily cyanide than a human being is meant to ingest.
00:38However, this is not true.
00:40This particular energy drink contains cyanocobalamin,
00:44a synthetic form of vitamin B12 that releases a small quantity of cyanide in the body.
00:52Once consumed, cyanocobalamin is metabolized into an active form of B12
00:58and the cyanide then leaves the body through urine.
01:02In the Celsius energy drink, there are 6 micrograms of cyanocobalamin,
01:07which is well below the maximum safe limit.
01:11This is actually lower than other energy drinks that can be found in the market.
01:16Higher doses than that can also be prescribed as vitamin deficiencies.
01:22Cyanide can also be formed in the body after someone eats specific plant products
01:27or is exposed to cigarette smoke.
01:30In fact, the European Food Safety Authority sets the safe level for one-off cyanide exposure
01:38at 20 micrograms per kilogram of body weight.
01:43The influencer has taken down his video, claiming he was misquoted,
01:48resulting in his statement appearing as inaccurate.
