Premier League raises concerns over Football Governance Bill

The Premier League has raised concerns with the Government’s newly-strengthened Football Governance Bill due to powers that it would have to intervene in the distribution of the league’s revenues. Daniel Wales reports.

00:15on competitiveness, clubs being able to invest in world-class talent as they described it

00:20and finally, aspiration that drives the growth of the league both in this country and globally.

00:27However, the Premier League did concede that some aspects of the bill would be beneficial

00:32on points such as fan engagement, protecting and advocating for clubs and their heritage,

00:38as well as negating the risk of breakaway leagues such as the European Super League,

00:42the threat of which still looms. For now though, the impact of the new bill is yet to be felt,

00:48with the Premier League stating that it will continue to work with the government and

00:52parliamentarians to make sure that the new legislation is fair and robust.
