Trump to hold rally in Georgia to court African American voters

00:00Yes, Donald Trump is going to be in Macon, Georgia.

00:03This is a small town that is about an hour and a half southeast from where we are right

00:08now in Atlanta.

00:10Macon is actually what is called a majority minority county, with 55 percent of the population

00:18there being African American.

00:21So white Americans are a minority there, and that is significant for a main reason, which

00:28is that Donald Trump is, of course, courting those black voters.

00:32We've talked many times about how it seemed that Kamala Harris, even though she's still

00:37doing much better than Donald Trump among black men, that she's losing a little bit

00:43of ground when it comes to those black men, especially young black men.

00:47And so they are likely going to be the target of this rally by Donald Trump.

00:53The campaign has said that a focus of the speech, at least the focus that the campaign

00:58wants to put out there and make public, is a focus on the economy, on rising costs and

01:06on the inflation.

01:07That is, of course, something that the Republicans have been pounding on for weeks and months

01:13now, because they know that it is an issue which the polls say Donald Trump is leading

01:18on.

01:19So they seem to trust Donald Trump more when it comes to the economy.

01:23And in a town like Macon, that is also very important, because there is a 25 percent poverty

01:29rate in that city.

01:32That is almost, or more actually, than twice the national rate.

01:37So two things to watch out for.

01:39What sort of appeals Donald Trump makes to African Americans, especially African American

01:44men, and what his message is on the issue of the economy and inflation.

01:51You were also at the Kamala Harris rally yesterday, where she made a last-minute pitch to voters

01:55in Atlanta.

01:56And she really didn't hold back on her jabs at Trump, did she?

02:02Absolutely.

02:03She really opened that speech with an attack on Donald Trump, really telling her supporters

02:08that there's really a stark contrast between her and her opponent.

02:14She called Donald Trump increasingly unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed by grievance,

02:21and out for unchecked power.

02:23And she repeated one of her famous lines now from her speeches, which is that he's going

02:28to come into the White House with an enemies list, and she will be coming into the White

02:33House with a to-do list for the American people.

02:36So she really attacked Donald Trump, but that was not just what her speech was about.

02:41She also put out some of her main programs on policy, especially when it comes to the

02:48economy.

02:49And she also had a sort of hopeful message, talking about how she's going to work to make

02:56the life of Americans better.

02:58But really what was interesting there is that, like many of the speakers before her, she

03:03asked the crowd, did you vote early?

03:06And almost all of the crowd responded with arms up in the air, with shouts.

03:13And she told those people, she said, OK, great, thank you, you did your job, but the job is

03:18not over.

03:19We have a few more days until election day.

03:21What you need to do right now, if you have voted, is call your friends, call your family,

03:25call your co-workers and check that they have voted.

03:29And if they haven't, that they make a plan to vote on election day.

03:32We've had record turnout for early voting here in Georgia.

03:36But she knows and Donald Trump knows that this is going to be an extremely tight race.

03:41And so they still need to bring out those votes on election day.

03:45They can't just simply rest on what happened in early voting.

03:49And so Kamala Harris tried to bring the vibes in that rally.

03:54There was a lot of energy going around there.

03:56And the people that we spoke to seemed to be feeling that energy.

04:00They were pretty positive, pretty optimistic.

04:02But every time I asked the question, are you confident about a victory for Kamala Harris?

04:08The first answer was, of course, yes, we are.

04:10We're going to win.

04:11We're confident.

04:12But there was always a but.

04:14But we're not overly confident, but we are cautiously optimistic.

04:19So they feel that they can win, but they are very wary about what would happen.

04:24And that is why they are trying to get out every single one of those votes on November
