People swarm to celebrate Adelaide’s annual Christmas Pageant

Organisers say hundreds of thousands of people turned out for Adelaide’s annual Christmas Pageant today. The event has been going for nine decades and Father Christmas this year was given an even warmer welcome this year, thanks to the fine weather.

00:00Adelaide's CBD was lined with people today for the city's popular Christmas pageant.

00:08Those with front row seats say the early morning alarm clock was worth it.

00:12We got here about 2.30 and it definitely was when the kids are as happy as what they are.

00:16My sister-in-law came here at 6.30 this morning.

00:19The event has been going since 1933 and aims to bring joy to children across SA.

00:25My favourite float would probably be the big purple monster because it's really fluffy and cute.

00:29I love Christmas because it's a time to love your family and share Christmas with everyone.

00:37You get hundreds and thousands of presents when it's Christmas.

00:42It's a great time of the year. It's always very exciting for the young ones.

00:45But it's not just the kids who enjoy the parade.

00:48To be honest, I think it's better for me.

00:51I just feel like childhood dreams are coming back and I can only imagine how they feel, seeing all of this.

00:56It's a magical experience.

01:00Event organisers say there were 18 bands, 5 choirs, 30 dance groups and 300 elves and clowns.

01:10People also didn't seem to mind the heat or that it's nearly two months until Christmas.

01:15Not at all. Not at all. Christmas can't be earlier than that.

01:18Well, there's just over 50 sleeps until Christmas.

01:21And while you're unlikely to find an event calendar this far out,

01:24there's no doubt the countdown to Christmas in SA has well and truly begun.
