We go to Little Buildings, a hidden gem of a bar and music venue in the heart of Ouseburn, Newcastle’s trendy culture capital.

00:00Little Buildings was a DIY rehearsal space venue.

00:03It was opened back in 2014, and I first came in the place in 2016 and fell in love with it.

00:08We didn't have a clue what we were doing when we took it on.

00:12Some would say we're still doing it, but it's fun anyway.

00:14Being situated in Newcastle's Ouseburn, an area that's full of different music venues,

00:21I wondered what it was that makes Little Buildings different and what sets it apart from the rest of the crowd.

00:26No frills, you know, coming in, there's no airs or graces.

00:30We're going to help you get on stage and get off stage.

00:34We're going to make sure that you sound great.

00:36We're going to make sure that you're comfortable when you come.

00:42And that overall you feel like you want to come and do it again.

00:46That's it, you know, that's the basic fundamental.

00:50This place is bricks and mortar, just like every other venue, you know.

00:54And it's the people that carry it.

00:57But we do have that, you know, we do have a lot of customers have been coming here since before me,

01:04even our staff, two newer members of staff have been coming here long before I was ever

01:08through the door years ago.

01:11They add to the feel, the value of the place.

01:14Having chatted to Alan for a while, I got a feeling of what the venue is now,

01:19but I wondered what his plans were for the place going forward

01:24and what he hopes to achieve with Little Buildings in the future.

01:28I think when the bar's done, like I say, we can then expand a little bit more for acoustic,

01:31busk as night, comedy events, stand up, you know, anything like that.

01:36It's easy to do, you know, spoken word a lot, we can do it all.

01:41Seeing a lot of these new acts coming through from 16, 17 years old

01:44in this place, it's another gap from another 10 years.

01:47We're going to see those bands playing the Glastonbury, Leeds, Redmond, you know,

01:50put music out.

01:52So it's a steeped in history in that regard already.

01:55And we just want to see it going from there.

01:57We want bands to come here, play here once,

01:59and want to do this for the rest of their lives.

02:01Alan had explained to me what Little Buildings means to him,

02:03and also what it means to the bands who've been through the place

02:06and the ones who may be yet to come.

02:08But what I'm really interested in now is what it's like for a customer coming in

02:12and what people can expect from a night out if they go to Little Buildings.

02:42It's as immersive as it could possibly ever be.

02:44And the bar itself isn't going to kill your back pocket.

02:47See, anybody, you could be there.

02:49You could be in that video and filming on somebody's potato in 20 years' time, you know.

02:53I was at that gig.

02:55And it cost you nothing.

02:55It cost you the price of a slice of pizza.

02:57Some places you might as well.
