World Series ticket prices skyrocket on secondary market

00:00I'm Conway Gittins reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. Here's what we're watching

00:03on the street today. The Dow fell for the fourth day in a row, but the Nasdaq rallied

00:08due largely to Tesla. Traders had both economic data and corporate results to pick through

00:13on Thursday. New home sales jumped to a one and a half year high in September. The median

00:17sales price came in at $426,300. Meanwhile, American Airlines posted a third quarter loss

00:25net income at Southwest dropped 65%, but UPS delivered its first quarterly sales growth

00:31in two years. Looking to Friday, Colgate Palmolive and AutoNation report quarterly results.

00:38Turning to other headlines, if you want a ticket to the World Series, you're going to

00:42have to dig real deep. You're not even guaranteed a seat inside the stadium. Tickets for this

00:47year's championship matchup between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers are

00:52the highest ever. According to TickPick, the cheapest resale ticket price is about

00:57$850 for game one in Los Angeles. But Yahoo Finance saw higher prices for the opening

01:03game at Dodger Stadium, $1,682 on Vivid Seats, $1,703 on TickPick and $1,731 on SeatGeek.

01:14On average, prices are more than double what they were compared to 2023. Prices are especially

01:21expensive when the series hits New York. Tickets originally sold by the Yankees started

01:27at around $200. On the resale market, however, a standing room only ticket for game three

01:33is going for $1,400 to $1,500. If you want a seat, that'll set you back nearly $1,800.

01:41The Dodgers and the Yankees haven't met in a championship matchup since 1981. According

01:47to SportingNews.com, a face value ticket back then was no more than $20 based on ticket

01:54memorabilia. Even if you adjust for inflation, that would still only be $70 in today's dollars.
