When someone says they are going to Petburi, do you wonder if they mean Petburi Province or Petburi Road?
00:06
Today, let's explore why many roads in Bangkok share names with Thai Provinces.
00:11
The reason is that many roads are named after Thai nobles.
00:14
For instance, Petburi Road is named after Somdet Phra Racha Pittucha Jao Pha Walaya Alongkorn Komaluang Petburi Racha Sirintorn.
00:23
But why do these nobles share names with provinces?
00:27
Authorities suggest that King Rama V named his children after places he picked up this idea when he lived in Europe.
00:34
This is why many roads named after provinces are linked to King Rama V's descendants.
