Newcastle United suffered only their second home defeat of 2024 with a 1-0 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion.

00:07Another frustrating day in front of goal for Newcastle United.

00:12Same as ever. Last time out Newcastle had most of the play but failed to score.

00:19And that is a concern now for Eddie Howe. That is the biggest concern that Eddie Howe has currently

00:24because Newcastle have now gone 6 hours 45 minutes without scoring a goal in open play.

00:31The last time Newcastle did score a goal in open play was Harvey Barnes.

00:34That consolation goal at Fulham on September 21st.

00:38So that's nearly a month ago now of course. There's an international break in there.

00:43But that is a big concern Eddie Howe must find a solution for that.

00:47But having said that as well, there were big players that missed big chances today.

00:52Alexander Isaac just before Brighton opened the scoring for Danny Welbeck

00:58went one on one with the Brighton goalkeeper.

01:00Saved him last. Alexander Isaac last season would have buried that.

01:05But just looks like a player lacking a bit of sharpness in front of goal.

01:08And of course he came back into the start 11 after 3 games out with 2 injuries.

01:11So maybe there was a bit of rustiness there.

01:13But what I would say on that is that the evidence of Alexander Isaac this season

01:17is that he isn't firing some one goal.

01:19Which again is a concern. So they need him back firing if they are to hit top form.

01:23Anthony Gordon for as good as I thought he was in the first half

01:27implemented the press fantastically.

01:30Never gave the Brighton goalkeeper a moment on the ball.

01:34But another player I would just lack that cutting edge.

01:37A header he had immediately after the restart in the second half.

01:42He puts over and he's had other moments as well where he's gotten some promising positions.

01:47But has been unable to test the Brighton goalkeeper.

01:50So yeah a frustrating day.

01:53Eddie Howe keeps talking about waiting for it to sort of click.

01:57And yeah it is a concern that he casts a lot of scoring goals.
