Warming up for the weekend in the Northeast

October has been extremely dry so far in the Northeast, but on the bright side, warmer temperatures are in store for the weekend.

00:00We're going to jump into the northeast, a quick look at what's going on out this way.

00:03You might notice there's a big storm way offshore as the sun sets here.

00:08The satellite hybrid here, we're looking at kind of both a visible and infrared look at the same time.

00:13But the center of circulation is a pretty healthy storm, not a tropical entity, but is drifting away.

00:18This actually at one point was bringing a little bit of rain into the outer banks,

00:21but is hooking it away and out to sea.

00:24And a satellite assessment of where the rain is, it's pretty far out there,

00:28so we're not going to see a drop associated with that.

00:30Really quiet weather pattern for most of us in the northeast.

00:33Closest action has been a little bit of wind up into Marquette in Michigan, 39,

00:3740 mile per hour gusts in some of these areas.

00:39But the wind is thankfully a little drier or less active here for the northeast

00:43because I say it's fortunate because we've been so dry.

00:46Fire danger would be volatile here if we did have stronger wind.

00:49We haven't had measurable rain in Philly since September 29th.

00:52Trenton, same date, in New York City at Central Park.

00:55Last time we had measurable rain was way back on September 30th at Atlantic City,

00:59just the very beginning of the month.

01:01And going big picture all the way back to August 20th, over the past two months,

01:05we've had less than a half inch of rain in Iceland.

01:07That's only 5% of normal.

01:09In Philadelphia, we should have 7.7 inches of rain.

01:13We've had 10% of that in that same interim.

01:16So very dry weather out there, and just for the past 16, 17 days,

01:20the driest start to October on record in New York.

01:23We'll accompany in Philly and Nashville as one of the other years

01:26without a drop of measurable rain by this point.

01:29But as time progresses, we're going to stay dry,

01:32and some of those other years in history did eventually pick up some rain around the 20th or later.

01:36It's chilly out there in Boston, 53 right now, still 68 into D.C.,

01:40but we've got frosty weather, and comparing where we are tonight with average,

01:44we're running a little colder than the norm, especially in Charleston.

01:47But the warming trend, Damien, takes over over the next several days,

01:50beginning with tomorrow afternoon.
