Taiwan's Illustrators and Designers Hit Taipei Fashion Week Runway

Taipei Fashion Week unveiled a new collaboration of innovative fashion and creative illustrations at its opening on Thursday.

00:00A mix of cutesy art and high fashion graced the runway on the opening night of Taipei

00:08Fashion Week, the country's biggest fashion event.

00:11The show features designs from pairings of six fashion designers and six professional

00:15digital illustrators.

00:17It's a groundbreaking collaboration, marking the first time these two worlds have merged

00:22in Taiwan.

00:23Bringing this collaboration to life wasn't easy.

00:26For Berlin-based Taiwanese streetwear designer Hashtag Demore, blending their edgy catalogue

00:32with colorful illustrated creations posed a unique challenge.

00:36In the beginning for our team we think, oh my god, this IP is way too cute and we are

00:42like very edgy and very cool, very Berlin style.

00:47But I think this is always the fun part, you know.

00:49I think the cooperation is always about looking for the spark, looking for the conversation,

00:54looking for the conflict.

00:57In order to have a conflict then we can actually transfer something new.

01:00This is my first time working with streetwear, so I think it's very interesting.

01:05I also really like designing clothing, so I'm very happy.

01:09I never thought my work could be presented in this way.

01:14This collaboration aims to make high fashion more accessible to young people by combining

01:19colorful characters with modern looks.

01:22The end result seems to have impressed audiences.

01:24What I was getting was, it was really out of the box and super creative.

01:29And there are a few pieces that I did not expect it, like I did not expect it would

01:34look like that.

01:35And it actually looks good on, you know, just wear it like that and I think it was really fun.

01:41It's a little bit controversial to the eyes because we're not used to it.

01:45It makes everything so lively.

01:47It's kind of weird but in a good way.

01:49It's like quirky.

01:50In addition to the designs on the runway, a special guest stole the spotlight on opening night.

01:55Olympic gold medalist Lin Yu-ting.

01:58This year, Taipei Fashion Week invited the boxer to kick off the show, symbolizing strength and grace.

02:04This time, I was able to present Taiwan's culture and strength in a very unique way.

02:12It was a very new experience for me.

02:16To be able to introduce Taiwan in this way, wow, I am quite honored.

02:21Though the opening event only lasted for a few hours,

02:24Taipei Fashion Week will continue until the end of October,

02:27offering creativity, culture and innovation alongside the latest fashion trends.
