The union at the ANU has protested against job cuts there.

00:00Renew ANU is a damaging plan that will cut $150 million from non-staff expenditure, $100 million from staff expenditure.
00:10It will have a damaging effect on ANU and a damaging effect on teaching, research, student support and everything else the university does.
00:19Shame!
00:21That is equivalent to 638 FTE jobs.
00:26Shame!
00:29And why are we here?
00:31I know that question has been asked at town halls.
00:34There have been a lot of town halls but not a lot of answers.
00:37What we have heard is that there is financial mismanagement.
00:41They are in debt.
00:42They have somehow turned magically, as if by magic, a budgeted $60 million deficit into a $200 million forecast deficit.
00:53Shame!
00:55Are you responsible for that?
00:57No!
00:59Senior executives have mismanaged this university to such an extent that it now threatens the very university itself.
01:06And I want to talk a little bit about what the university is.
01:10Because the university is not the Chancellor, Julie Bishop.
01:13The university is not the Vice-Chancellor, Genevieve Bell.
01:17The university is not ANU Council.
01:20The university is us.
01:22It's the staff, the students and the broader community.
