When Grammy-nominated rapper Takeoff was killed by gunfire in 2022, it rocked not just the Atlanta community, but changed the trajectory of many of his family members' lives.

00:00His thing that he used to say all the time,

00:02it's not about me, it's about my family.

00:05He said, this thing is bigger than me.

00:07And I never knew what that meant up until this tragedy happened.

00:12He loved us, and we loved him too.

00:15One of the things he always used to tell me all the time,

00:18even in hard times that I was having,

00:21I'm pretty sure everybody went through,

00:23not being able to pay their bills.

00:25And he said, Mama, we're going to make it.

00:30And he said, you won't have to worry about nothing.

00:32I got you.

00:34And from that day, I told him, I said, look,

00:37I don't care if you work at McDonald's frying fries,

00:41we are going to make it.

00:43We're going to do it because we love each other

00:45and we got to stick together.

00:47But just like I say, it's hard for me to talk about it.

00:52I don't know when and how I'm going to be able to get over it,

00:56but I'm trusting in God to help me through

00:59and help my family through.
