The Career of Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar was born in Compton, California in 1987. Kendrick Lamar grew up in a violent area in Compton, where, ironically his parents had moved to escape the hoods of Chicago. He began writing rhymes as a teenager and produced multiple mixtapes under the name K-Dot. In 2011 Top Dawg made Lamar’s album Section.80 available on iTunes, and at the same event, he was hailed as 'new king of the West Coast' by rappers such as The Game, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. In 2017, he released the album 'Damn' which was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for music.
Just after 4 albums, he has become one of the most known rappers in the music industry. He is not afraid of controversy as he challenges popular names in the hip-hop world including Drake, J. Cole and Big Sean himself. Kendrick remains known for his sharp observation of street-culture, often examining the psychology and crime in-depth. Lamar already has 12 Grammy awards to his name and he also made history in April 2018 while becoming the first rapper to win the Pulitzer Prize.
