Taiwan Military's Latest Domestically Produced Rifle

Taiwan is producing tens of thousands of its T112 — a new domestically produced combat rifle.

00:05combat rifle. At this armoury in southern Taiwan, they're making them in the tens of

00:10thousands, and it's set to replace the current rifle which has been in use for nearly 20

00:14years. This version is meant to be more accurate, stronger and more durable than its predecessors.

00:19The project to design and manufacture these rifles is costing Taiwan more than $200 million.

00:49But that's just a fraction of the massive amount of defence spending Taiwan is currently

00:56undertaking as it looks to counter the threat from China. Boosting domestic production of

01:01weapons and modernising the military is all part of Taiwan's porcupine strategy, making

01:07an attack on the country as unattractive as possible to China.
