LNP leader promises more support to victims of crime

The opposition leader is in north Queensland visiting Townsville for the first time on the state election campaign where he's promised more support for victims of crime.

00:00David Cricifulli has pledged under an LNP government $40 million will be invested in

00:07a Victims Advocate Service, which will be able to support victims of crime.

00:12The free service would also help victims get financial support and connect with counselling

00:17and support services.

00:19The service wouldn't be established until 2026, with planning works undertaken next

00:24year if the LNP wins this month's election.

00:27The LNP says the service would offer different support from the State Government's Victims

00:32Commissioner that was recently established.

00:34Mr Cricifulli again faced questions on the issue of abortion if the LNP wins government,

00:40after Catter's Australian Party State Leader Robbie Catter confirmed he would introduce

00:45a private members bill to reverse decriminalising termination's next parliament.

00:51Abortion was decriminalised in Queensland in 2018.

00:54Mr Cricifulli wouldn't be drawn on the matter, refusing to say whether he would deny his

00:59MP's a conscience vote if a bill is brought before the House next month.
