Queensland Premier Steven Miles has flagged more cost of living relief measures ahead of next state election

On day two of Queensland’s election campaign, Labor has flagged more cost of living relief while the opposition has pledged to strengthen frontline services.

00:00Well, on day two of the election campaign, it's all about cost of living and farming

00:07innovation.

00:08Now, the Premier, Stephen Miles, has been in Mackay, in the states far north.

00:12He's made an announcement of the establishment of a state publicly owned energy retailer.

00:17Now, that will compete with the already state owned energy retailer, Ergon Energy, and what

00:23that means for Queensland is that energy prices could go down, not just for homes, but also

00:27for businesses.

00:29The Premier, Stephen Miles, has largely been running his campaign off cost of living relief.

00:33We saw yesterday he even touted his party's 50 cent public transport fares by catching

00:38a bus to Government House to officially kick off the campaign, and today he's all about

00:42cutting energy prices.

00:44Meanwhile, in the other camp, the opposition leader, David Crisafulli, has been in Brisbane

00:48today.

00:49He's made a multi-million dollar announcement on an agriculture innovation fund.

00:53What that means is that it can boost farming productivity over the next decade, and that

00:58comes off the back of yesterday's announcement of $40 million pledged to secure businesses

01:03against the youth crime crisis.

01:05That's after he was making his tour up in Cairns in the states far north as well.

01:09What's particularly interesting about this election is that both leaders decided to kick

01:14off their campaign in the states far north, so it is shaping up to be that key battleground,

01:18with seats in the regions and the far north being some of the most crucial seats in the

01:23state, particularly in Bundaberg, where the seat is held on one of the tightest margins

01:27of 0.01% by Labor.

01:31So it is certainly shaping up to be a tight race indeed, and some of the key issues that

01:35are emerging for Queenslanders include housing, youth crime, health, as well as cost of living.

01:41That's certainly shaping the way Queenslanders are expected to vote in this election, but

01:45it is only day two of the campaign.

01:47We are still expecting lots more to come over the coming weeks, but with just under four

01:52weeks to go, it is all going to be decided at the ballot box on October 26th.
