Taiwan Cleans Up From Typhoon Krathon

Taiwan faces a difficult cleanup after Typhoon Krathon crashed through the country.

00:00Typhoon Khaitan's collision with Taiwan may be over, but the storm hasn't gone quietly.

00:08In Kaohsiung, where the eyewall slammed into the coast, debris flew, while high winds trashed

00:14this shopping center.

00:16Local people had prepared for the worst, but they were still frightened by how fierce the

00:19storm ended up being.

00:21When the typhoon started, the wind was very strong, about level 10 or 13.

00:29The iron gate on the water tower upstairs was very loud, and it was pretty scary.

00:38The port area at the center of this southern city saw damage too, with toppled shipping

00:43containers, fallen scaffolding, and fishing boats cast adrift.

00:47We sent a port decoy to keep an eye on the ship at the port, so that it wouldn't drift

00:53off the coast.

00:54The ship was supposed to help pull the ship back to the harbour.

00:58And the chaos wasn't confined to the areas directly hit in the southwest.

01:02The storm's rains wrapped all the way around to the opposite side of the island, causing

01:06knee-deep floodwaters in northeastern towns like Luodong.

01:10Of course, it's not just the typhoon, it's the typhoon too.

01:15The floodwaters have receded, but waterlogged interiors and debris-filled streets remain,

01:20leaving a long period of cleanup ahead.
