00:00
I'll break up the Baltimore Ravens.
00:05
Their demise was greatly overstated.
00:07
They are right back in the mix in the AFC.
00:09
They've looked fantastic over the last couple of weeks and, you know, really honestly could
00:13
have won any of the games that they played in.
00:15
Let's bring in Melissa Kim.
00:16
She, of course, is talking Baltimore Ravens and covering them, working for 105.7 The Fan.
00:22
And I think when you look at this, I mean, for me, the bottom line is I think, Melissa,
00:30
people just forget how good a coach Harbaugh is.
00:33
They make adjustments over the course of the season, and it looks like they've made one
00:37
pretty quickly with just giving that ball to Derrick Henry, haven't they?
00:41
Yeah.
00:42
You know, John Harbaugh, nearing two decades coaching in the league, right?
00:46
So definitely a lot of experience, especially in terms of turning teams around.
00:50
And, you know, coming into this season, there was a lot of chatter, of course, about the
00:54
offensive line.
00:55
They lost three guys in the offseason, three veteran guys, which is, I think, the key point
00:59
So they're literally starting Andrew Voorhees at left guard, who had a red shirt ear last
01:06
year in his rookie season.
01:07
Daniel Fa'alele at right guard, who had his fair share at tackle, so not necessarily the
01:11
guard position.
01:12
So he transitioned over the guard position.
01:14
And then a little mix of Patrick McCary, who is their offensive lineman that can play literally
01:20
any position on that line, as well as Roger Rosengard, the rookie out of Washington.
01:24
So that obviously was basically the big talker in the training camp and in the preseason,
01:31
because you don't really know how these guys are going to play together, because the starters
01:34
don't really play a whole lot in the preseason.
01:37
They really didn't actually get going until week one.
01:39
And you think about the games that they lost, right?
01:42
Obviously, Kansas City literally lost by a toenail.
01:45
And then in week two against the Raiders at home, a very rare occurrence for this team
01:49
to lose at home.
01:51
Gardner-Minch, who has had their number before, but again, a game that was close.
01:55
And then they finally go on the road to Dallas, finally getting a win against Dak Prescott,
01:59
and then coming back home on Sunday night football and beating arguably one of the best
02:03
teams in the league in the Bills.
02:05
So it obviously has taken some time for them to gel, which we expected.
02:10
I think this was something that was an expectation because of the lack of reps that the offensive
02:14
line got together.
02:15
And now we're seeing vintage King Henry that we saw in the Titans, the guy that can literally
02:19
truck through other human beings, multiple human beings, and really wear down other run
02:24
defenses.
02:25
Yeah, you mentioned it, the vintage part, because Derrick Henry did not look that great
02:30
in his last year in Tennessee.
02:32
And you would probably take the game that he had the other night and say, okay, that's
02:37
the best game he's had in over a year.
02:39
I think that's fair.
02:40
199 yards, including an 87 yard touchdown.
02:44
And as we take a look at the upcoming schedule for the Ravens, they take on the Bengals,
02:50
the Commanders, the Buccaneers, the Browns, and the Broncos.
02:54
And although I'm a pretty big Commander's backer now at this point, but with the way
02:58
that they played beyond that, I mean, they were playing great.
03:02
I can't sit here and say anything negative about them.
03:04
But it does feel like out of these next five games, which we know nothing about and we're
03:07
flipping coins.
03:08
That's true.
03:09
But it does feel like at the very worst, they should be getting three wins out of these
03:13
five.
03:14
Oh, absolutely.
03:16
And I think that those wins are so important to stack those wins, right?
03:18
You hear the team and head coach John Harbaugh talking about that a lot, because looking
03:22
down the stretch, the meat of their schedule before the bye week, which is not until week
03:27
15 this year, they've got a lot of really short weeks.
03:30
They're playing on a Sunday and then on Thursday or a Saturday, then on a Wednesday, that Christmas
03:33
day game in Houston.
03:36
So they've got to really get those wins where they can right now.
03:39
And obviously going into division opponent, they're never going to take the Bengals lightly.
03:42
Honestly, the Bengals were my pick to win the division coming into the season.
03:45
And obviously that has transpired not the way that I thought it was going to.
03:49
But regardless, and then you have the commanders, as you said, I mean, it's such a great time
03:54
to be a football fan in the Baltimore and DMV area because they have two dynamic quarterbacks
04:01
right now.
04:02
Jane Daniels is playing his tail off.
04:03
I've heard from commanders fans around the area who literally have not really paid attention,
04:07
a whole lot of attention to this team in the last decade.
04:11
And now everybody is on the Jane Daniels train.
04:14
So it's a really cool time that I think that one is the one that I'm circling on my calendar
04:18
as the game to watch right now of the Ravens next five games.
04:22
Yeah, look, it's undeniable that look, this could be the Houston of last year for me with
04:28
Washington.
04:29
At least that's the way that it feels like as their trajectory continues.
04:33
So, you know, let's take a look real quick at the AFC North heading into week five.
04:37
And then I do have a question about one player on Baltimore in particular that I think a
04:40
lot of people are going to want to know more about.
04:44
But the Steelers, they played well again last week.
04:46
They sort of fumbled it away.
04:48
The Colts lost to Flacco.
04:50
As we mentioned, the Ravens back on track.
04:52
Bengals, I don't know what to make of that win in Carolina.
04:55
I still think Cincinnati's defense, Melissa, is horrible.
04:57
They can't stop anybody.
04:59
And I think the Browns are done.
05:00
I don't think the Browns are going anywhere this season based on what I've seen.
05:03
Is that a fair assessment?
05:04
Am I not giving the Browns enough credit?
05:07
Am I not giving the Bengals enough credit here?
05:09
I feel like even though it is crowded, it is Baltimore and it is Pittsburgh there at
05:13
the top, unless something happens with Cincinnati's defense, and I'm not aware of.
05:16
No, Cincinnati's defense has not been the best.
05:19
The Browns O-line, not been the best.
05:21
I mean, almost worse than I thought it was going to be at the beginning of the season,
05:25
if I could say that.
05:26
The Steelers coming into this week, no offense to them.
05:29
I thought they were kind of a fraudulent, undefeated team because they depended so much
05:33
on their field goals, right?
05:34
They weren't really getting the offense rolling.
05:37
And their defense kind of had a lackluster week this past week as well.
05:40
So I think it's a fair assessment to say that's the Ravens and the Steelers at this point.
05:44
Because again, you go back to the coaching, right?
05:45
We talked about head coach John Harbaugh in the beginning.
05:48
Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season in his entire head coaching tenure.
05:52
So I will never put anything past that man because even in, there was two seasons ago
05:57
where he, I think was on the brink of going below 500, but ended up beating the Ravens
06:02
that year.
06:03
It was Ben Roethlisberger's last year.
06:05
So I would never put anything past a Mike Tomlin coached team.
06:09
All right.
06:10
So Melissa, as we end here, the one question that I know transcends regular football and
06:15
moves into fantasy football, and I'm sure you've been asked this question as well, because
06:20
I need to know also.
06:21
Mark Andrews.
06:22
Melissa, what is going on here?
06:23
Is this it?
06:24
Is that, is this the end of the line here?
06:26
I know Lamar is backing him and everything like that, but I mean, this, I don't know
06:30
what to do here.
06:33
You see my, you see my reaction, right?
06:34
That's kind of been the big, if there is a cloud over the Baltimore offense right now,
06:38
Mark Andrews has kind of been it because we all know that he is Lamar Jackson's favorite
06:42
target.
06:43
We saw him get into a lot of double coverage situations to start the season off against
06:47
the Chiefs.
06:48
Isaiah likely had an insane game.
06:49
But no, I don't think it's the end for Mark Andrews.
06:52
Absolutely not at all.
06:53
I think he's still that reliable target.
06:55
I think that it's taking, you know, just like the rest of this offense, it's taking
06:58
a couple of weeks for him to really get going this season.
07:00
So everybody that's been, you know, putting bets on Mark Andrews, fancy guys, just be
07:06
patient.
07:07
He said, you know, be patient.
07:08
He's definitely not cooked by any stretch of the imagination.
07:10
All right.
07:11
I'll take your word for it, Melissa.
07:12
I'm only going to give you one more week on this though.
07:14
One more week.
07:15
I gotta let it go.
07:16
Thanks again.
07:17
Sounds good.
