00:03It's time to expect more traffic.

00:06Do you get stuck in traffic, especially during the holiday rush?

00:10You know, Susan, that's why I've been riding my motorcycle for the past 9 years.

00:13Every day, because I don't want to get stuck in traffic.

00:15But even if I ride my motorcycle, when there's traffic, I get stuck.

00:18You get stuck, right?

00:19But it's rare.

00:20Yeah, because it's not hard to get stuck in traffic.

00:22Yeah, especially when it's heavy traffic.

00:24Yeah, right? It's hard to get stuck.

00:26You know, Susan, one of the problems with traffic

00:29is Commonwealth Avenue.

00:31To make up for that, the MMDA decided to add a bus lane

00:35like a bus carousel in EDSA.

00:48Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

00:51Last year, according to the MMDA,

00:53407,988 are the average number of cars

00:57every day on Commonwealth Avenue,

01:00which is the widest road in the country.

01:02With that number, you might wonder

01:05why there's so much traffic

01:07in the morning and at night,

01:08aside from cars.

01:10Daisy, for example,

01:11has to travel 2 hours every day

01:13from Quezon City to Montalban, Rizal.

01:15It's hard.

01:17When I go to Litig, Montalban,

01:22I get there at 11am.

01:25Once the trucks and buses meet,

01:29it's really over.

01:31The MMDA says they're looking for solutions

01:33to traffic on Commonwealth Avenue.

01:35The addition of a bus lane.

01:38We talked to the Traffic Engineering Center.

01:41This week,

01:43they're working on the Commonwealth.

01:47One of the studies is to put a tunnel

01:52from Commonwealth to East Avenue

01:55and Quezon Avenue.

01:57It's not yet clear how the Commonwealth

02:00will distribute the bus carousel,

02:01just like the EDSA bus carousel

02:03that was opened in 2020.

02:05But within the 4 years

02:06that the EDSA bus carousel runs,

02:08it hasn't decreased,

02:09but the average daily volume

02:12of cars in EDSA has increased.

02:13And it's also noticeable this year,

02:15from January to August,

02:17304,765 units of private vehicles

02:21were sold and used on the road.

02:24That's 10.3 percent more

02:26than 276,215 in the same month of 2023.

02:31Just last month,

02:32according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers

02:35of the Philippines

02:36and Truck Manufacturers Association,

02:3839,155 commercial vehicles

02:41were added to the roads in the country,

02:43including trucks.

02:45The MMDA said this number is random

02:47in Metro Manila.

02:48According to the LTO,

02:5180,000 vehicles are added to us every month,

02:58including motorcycles,

03:00buses, trucks,

03:02and 40 percent of them are registered

03:05in Metro Manila.

03:06So, it's based here.

03:08If you include the ones

03:11in Karatig Province,

03:13from time to time,

03:15they come and go in and out of Metro Manila.

03:19That's about 50 percent.

03:21In 2023,

03:22there were 3.6 million vehicles

03:24traveling in Metro Manila every day.

03:28we're looking for alternative roads

03:31or routes

03:32so that our countrymen

03:35have options.

03:37To reduce the traffic,

03:39the MMDA called for living lanes.
