Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League. Anthony Gordon's second half penalty cancelled out Josko Gvardiol's opener as Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola's sides shared the points.

00:00So, Newcastle United's unbeaten record last year at St James' Park this season continues

00:05with a 1-1 draw against Manchester City. It was a deserved draw for Newcastle United.

00:09I think they were definitely worth the point, maybe even could have won it. But it was a

00:14fantastic reaction from last week where they were bitterly disappointed, you know Eddie

00:17Howe said so after the game, the players have said so during the week. They've let themselves

00:21down at Fulham but they were very disappointed. But they've reacted fantastically today with

00:25a 1-1 draw that said, you know, on a different day could have seen three points against Man

00:29City could have stolen it. But it was a hard-fought Premier League game here at St James' Park.

00:34Sometimes the early kick-offs can disappoint but this one didn't today. It was brilliant,

00:38you know, St James' Park was right up for it, especially in that second half. We'll

00:41get to the key points but it's worth saying, certain Newcastle absolutely deserve their

00:46point and give Man City a real good game and a real good, you know, a real good battle.

00:51Pep Guardiola said, well we know they were in a battle, sorry just looking at my left

00:55shoulder as we fake Hewitt and Trippie, I saw it hobbling out there. But yeah, he started

00:59today, he was magnificent down the right, Hewitt and Trippie. It might have been a fault

01:02for the first goal, Jack Realish got in, turned them, fed Guardiola to Holcombe and, you know,

01:12it was, I wouldn't say Man City deserved the lead at the first, I think they were more

01:15dominant with the ball but Newcastle were very good on the break. As I have been the

01:19last few times I've played Man City here, Isak of course didn't play, he was out, he

01:23missed the game entirely, Anthony Gordon played up front, but Jacob Murphy and Harvey

01:26Barnes either side. Murphy particularly was a threat on the right, I think his final ball

01:31let him down a couple of times but Newcastle were just very solid in defence, you know,

01:35City probably had a lot on the ball, I haven't seen the stats but it felt like from the eye

01:38test anyway, City had a lot on the ball but didn't really create too much, Newcastle were

01:41confident. And then when they broke, Newcastle were really good, they just couldn't really

01:45get that final ball. Edison, to be fair, wasn't really tested too much, you know, they got

01:49a couple of deflected shots, you know, blocked and got corners and things like that but Edison

01:54wasn't really tested too much but Newcastle were definitely in the battle to put it that

01:58way and went into the half to have 1-0 down, as I said, probably maybe slight flair of

02:02action in the first half but, you know, they came out of the second half brilliantly and

02:05reacted really well. And to be fair, as I said, by the time you get full-time they definitely

02:09deserve the point. Now their equaliser came when Bruno Guimaraes fed a ball, a brilliant

02:13ball through Anthony Gordon, it's just a nice straight ball but Gordon right on the edge

02:17of the, you know, right on the shoulder of the defence as you'd expect him to be. A couple

02:21of touches, took it past Edison, Edison brought him down. I thought it was a score-wall penalty,

02:25I think a lot of people did, Edison was booed because he made a genuine attempt for the

02:28ball as the Premier League had revealed after the game but I think he made a genuine attempt

02:32for the ball and he took Gordon out. There's been debate online whether that's a penalty,

02:37I'm shocked that there's even debate, I think it was a pretty, you know, the most score-wall

02:41penalty you ever see, he's trying to go, the keeper doesn't get the ball, the keeper takes

02:44him down. But yeah, and then Gordon stepped up, converted supremely in the bottom corner,

02:49it was a brilliant penalty to be fair to him, you didn't really know who would, you know,

02:53who would take it but it was Gordon who stepped up and it was, yeah, it was a fantastic finish.

02:57And then they had a couple more chances, again it was a final ball I think the last, sort

03:01of they let them down really, Longstaff had an effort which just went just wide of the

03:05course but, you know, Newcastle were definitely very good value for money, Manchester City

03:09had a couple of saves, hopefully one good save particularly near the end but other than

03:12that there wasn't really anything for them to do. So yeah, as I've mentioned throughout,

03:15very good value for the point and Newcastle will be really happy with that, especially

03:19after last week. Now they head to, well sorry, they host Wimbledon on Tuesday, they'll be

03:22wanting a good performance there and a good result, might see some changes but Newcastle

03:27will be targeting the trophy. I spoke to Nick Porter after the game, he said, you know,

03:31he's talked about that. So the target remains, you know, to win a trophy and they feel they

03:36might be able to rotate against the League 2 team and then with a home draw coming on

03:40the horizon, even though it's against Chelsea, they'll fancy a chance in that one. But, you

03:44know, that is looking ahead a little bit but as I said, they'll leave today with a point,

03:48well happy with that. I think a majority of fans in here will be happy with that. I think

03:52it was one of them games there, to be honest, if you'd asked both managers maybe 10 minutes

03:55or so from time, I think they both would have took a point. Such was the intensity of the

03:58game and the battle and yeah, I think Newcastle will be happy to hopefully escape without

04:03any injuries. Obviously, Isak will be asked about whether he can return, they've got obviously

04:07Wimbledon as mentioned and they've got Everton next again before the international break,

04:10whether Isak's fit enough for them. For that game, I wouldn't be very, I would be very

04:15surprised to see him on Tuesday, but of course, he might see him at Goodison Park on Saturday.

04:18But yeah, other than that, I think they'll be very happy with a one-one draw. They'll

04:22leave with a point, with their unbeaten home record intact and yeah, head to the, you know,

04:28what could be a pivotal week, two games, if they can get two wins from that, they'll head

04:30to the next international break, you know, very fightful. But yeah, brilliant response

04:34from Newcastle from last week, just what they needed, just what the doctor ordered

04:37and yeah, I'm sure the majority of Newcastle fans will have a happy couple of days ahead

04:41of that Wimbledon game on Tuesday night.
