As air-fryers become the third most popular kitchen appliance, we ask Kent students what they're baking on a budget

Air fryers have gained popularity over the years and a survey suggests more people now use one, instead of a conventional electric oven.   Mahima Abedin reports.

00:03When we think of making a meal we might get our pots and pans

00:06but one kitchen appliance seems to be taking over.

00:19elite things that you can have at lunch. They're so easy.

00:30So basically I'd use it for toast and bread usually. I might use it for cocktail sausages.

00:35Anything that can be used in an air fryer I would cook it in an air fryer.

00:39Anything really. I really like cooking roast potatoes in there

00:42with like salmon and things like that. It's really good.

00:44Mostly I use it for healthy foods instead of fast food and stuff like that.

00:48I'd use it probably two to three times a week.

00:51Not necessarily every day but yeah probably that often.

00:54I think it's really easy to cook and I can have it within just 20 minutes.

01:01Now I'm not the best cook and this air fryer has been in our office for quite some time

01:05now and I've never gone anywhere near it. But seeing as this utensil is becoming one

01:09of the most popular I thought it'd only be right to give it a try today.

01:13So I'm going to make a pizza toastie. It's one of the easiest recipes I saw online.

01:17Let's give it a go.

01:18I may have decided to make a toastie in the air fryer as some companies claim it makes

01:22the perfect toast. But more than three quarters of those surveyed

01:26would still rather use a traditional toaster. While the air fryer I used was just under

01:31£30 some people spend thousands on purchasing top of the range versions.

01:36But was it the perfect toastie though? Well I'll leave that for you to decide.
