00:00Despite the downpour taking place over the weekend, Medway were lucky enough to make
00:06the most of the sunshine with its annual Medway Mile. This event encourages local residents
00:13to put on their running shoes and get active.
00:18People from all across Medway have been running right across this track to enjoy
00:24a beautiful day out and make the most of the Medway Mile.
00:30This is when thousands of runners, walkers, joggers, basically everyone in the community
00:36are welcome to participate in one great one Medway community spirit, have fun together and
00:43you know it is also something that we do as a way of improving our fitness as well as bringing all
00:49community members together for fun activities. Of course the highlight is the races that we have so
00:54we've already had our brilliant young people's races, we've had the mascots which are amazing,
00:59people will be very hot in there and then later on we've got the elite races and the Medway Mile
01:04which will be starting and finishing this year on the Great Line. So a great opportunity to show off
01:09lots of different aspects of Gillingham which we're really proud of here at Medway Council.
01:14So the Medway Mile for me is just so inclusive, it's so diverse, it brings so many different people
01:21together so many different cultures and that's what Parkrun does and what Rebel Runners does,
01:26it's exactly the same thing. We're all inclusive for everybody and we have a great following across
01:32Medway, it's just fantastic. However, sprinting wasn't the only way for families to get fit
01:39as there were plenty of other sports on offer. As well as getting people involved they're always looking
01:44for more volunteers that will help with coaching or looking after children or parent support and
01:49liaison. It's a big thing to do a local club but generally those people are passionate about their
01:53sport. So the idea tonight is that the adults and children will join in, it's for everybody, it's
01:58inclusive for any ability, any sort of able-bodied person joining all the sports that we've got here
02:02and they'll talk to everybody about getting involved. The event finished with the all famous run across
02:13Great Lines Heritage Park, hopefully giving participants of all ages a head start on health
02:21this summer. Henry Luck for Cain TV in Medway
