How much could Rodri’s injury affect Manchester City this season

00:00So, Michael, obviously from the Manchester City-Arsenal game,

00:04Rodri was exiting the pitch quite early on in the game.

00:08It didn't really change the game massively,

00:11but it could certainly change the game in terms of the season

00:15and how they go forward.

00:16If he's out for a long time,

00:19his record with City in the Premier League especially is quite remarkable.

00:22And obviously last season as well,

00:24quite early on,

00:25he had the same sort of situation and City were struggling to win games.

00:29So, what's the latest you can tell us and how important is he for City's side

00:34and this possible injury?

00:37So, I mean, we're recording this on Monday morning after the game on Sunday.

00:42There is no news at the moment.

00:43Pep Guardiola asked yesterday about the injury he said after the game that he doesn't know.

00:47I suspect there will be news.

00:49I wonder whether there will be news on Tuesday night after the Watford game.

00:52Perhaps it might even go into Friday ahead of the Newcastle game.

00:55But I think you've touched on it there,

00:57just the importance of Rodri in this team.

00:59I mean, we ended last season almost wondering whether Manchester City could properly win a game without Rodri

01:05because City played four Premier League games without him last season,

01:09lost three of them.

01:10The one exception being Luton at home,

01:13which, no disrespect,

01:14it's not the most daunting a fixture for City.

01:17City only lost three Premier League games last season.

01:19All of them and Rodri wasn't there.

01:21The record with him without is just, you know, it's chalk and cheese really.

01:24So, it would be a real concern.

01:27And it is a real concern for City.

01:28There's no denying that.

01:29And if it is a long-term one,

01:30which you have to say it looked like a concern and injury when he went down,

01:34his immediate reaction was the player was writhing on the ground,

01:38banging on the ground,

01:39holding the back of his leg.

01:40He walked off.

01:41There was no attempt to try and kind of play on.

01:43He knew straight away that he couldn't continue.

01:46You know, back of his knee.

01:48You do wonder if we could be talking about a long-term one here.

01:51So, we'll have to see.

01:51But I think the only positive from a City perspective is that,

01:54obviously, he missed the first three games of this season through injury.

02:00And City managed to win all three of them.

02:03So, they've kind of already broken that little record and that little hoodoo.

02:07So, we'll just have to see.

02:07But I think, I don't think we should underestimate just what a huge impact

02:14a long-term injury to Rodri could be on Manchester City's season.

02:17Perhaps the title race in general,

02:18because City are simply not a strong side without him in the team.

02:23It's not a surprise.

02:24He's one of the best players in the world.

02:25He's up for the ball on door.

02:26So, yeah, we'll have to see in that one over the next coming days
