Hello, everyone. This is Paul Branson Reviews and so much more. Today, I'm reviewing this,
00:08
Cat's Eye. Now, if you've never seen this movie, and you see that woman there, that's
00:14
Drew Barrymore, being very, very young. And as you could remember her in Firestarter.
00:20
But her very first movie was when she was five years old, called Alter State. Never
00:26
seen it. I believe Alter State came out in 1980, but I've never seen the movie. Then
00:33
she did commercials, and she got an attention. People were watching her, and the producers
00:39
and all this said, you know what, she would be good in ET. So she was in ET. And ET was
00:46
a huge hit in 1982. Just a huge hit. Now, you may not know this. If you have seen ET,
00:54
and you like ET, on YouTube, they have kind of a part two of ET. It's about only five,
01:01
eight minutes long. So just type in Reunion ET, or something like that, and you could
01:07
check it out. It's a nice little remembrance of ET, and very heartwarming. So check that
01:15
out too, if you haven't seen the kind of sequel to ET. But overall, this is a little different.
01:22
So after she did ET, she did Firestarter, I believe. Or she might have did this first,
01:28
or maybe this and Firestarter came out the same year. But when this came out, this is
01:33
kind of like three stories that lead into a bigger story at the end. And she's at the
01:38
ending story. But it kind of leads that way all the way through. So this is called Cat's
01:44
Eye. Stephen King wrote this. And two of the stories in here are Stephen King's, but not
01:50
the ending. Two of his stories were from books, but not the ending. Now there's some
01:56
really good actors in here. The first story has James Wood, and some other actors that
02:01
I'm just not going to mention, except Drew Barrymore and James Wood. Now the first story
02:07
could have been a whole movie. Really could have been a whole movie. I would have loved
02:12
to have seen the first story to be a full-mature film. The second story was a little, it was
02:18
okay. It wasn't great, it wasn't perfect, but it was still fun. Now the third story
02:24
was the Drew Barrymore story. Now in the film, you follow the cat. So the cat is in each
02:33
episode of the short stories leading up to Drew Barrymore. That's all I'm going to say
02:37
about the cat. That's why they say it's Cat's Eyes. And a lot of film times, you see it
02:43
through the cat's eyes, that I actually found that was pretty cool. And the effects are
02:48
good. They're decent. Not maybe for this time, but they're decent. Like if you watch this
02:54
now, you'd be like, yeah, those are special effects for the 1980s. This film cost $7 million
02:59
to make. And here is it here. Special features, commentary, a whole bunch of things. And this
03:07
is an older casing for the DVD. You open it up. Nice pictures. The battle in the toy ribbon
03:17
bedroom is a classic. One of the better Stephen King movies. It says that there at the back.
03:22
Now I saw this in the theater, and it was a pact, and it was a lot of fun. People were
03:28
like, some people were screaming. And I was young when I saw this, and I was like, oh,
03:34
that's a classic. Some people were screaming. And I was young when I saw this in the theater.
03:37
So this was a fun, fun movie. Now with Halloween coming out, Cat's Eye is not, like they have
03:44
never really re-released it on DVD. So you actually have to find a copy. I found a copy
03:50
for $5. So I was actually really lucky to find this, because I've been wanting it for
03:55
some time. So I put it on, and I re-watched it, and I forgot a whole bunch of things.
04:00
I forgot a whole bunch of things. Now the director who directed this also directed Kujo.
04:07
So that's the same director who directed a Stephen King movie before, Kujo. He directed
04:11
this. Now I really enjoyed this movie. I really liked it. I really liked the writing, the
04:19
entertainment value, and it went by very quickly for what it was. Now Sissel and Ebert, Roger
04:25
Ebert gave it a thumbs up. He liked the pacing. He thought it was perfect all the way through.
04:30
And everything was just right on, and explained perfectly in each one. He did think the second
04:36
one was a little weak, though. But overall, he liked the first one, and he liked the third
04:41
one. Now Sissel, Sissel unfortunately gave it thumbs down, because he would have liked
04:51
to have seen a full major movie of the first one, and a full major movie of the last one.
04:56
He said, I want it more of the first short. I want it more of the last short. So he gave
05:04
it thumbs down. So there is a little mix between them. But overall, the acting is good. You're
05:09
going to be surprised on a lot of people that are in here, more than just James Wood. The
05:14
only reason why I said James Wood and Drew Barrymore is because there's the pictures
05:17
of them. But there's a lot more people that you're going to find in here, and it's an
05:21
enjoyable picture. Bye for now everyone. I give this movie an 8 out of 10, because I
05:25
thirdly enjoyed it. And I think it's a very well written script by Stephen King, and I
05:32
like the fact that he threw in a couple of his shorts, and he kind of like threw it in
05:36
a way of leading into something bigger. Bye for now everyone. Have an incredible day,
05:41
and if you get a copy of this, if you can find a copy of this, or find the movie somewhere,
05:46
check it out. And bye for now, and thank you again.
